a - another emission from the onanator. Standing on the bridge between ska and reggae, with a vocal style reminiscent of calypso – and all the better for both those things. 5.5 / 10
b - the best thing about John and Beverly's records is that Mumblin' Martyn doesn't get anywhere near the vocal mike. Unfortunately, though, he does still get to treat us to some of his terminally tedious song-writing. I'm with hatz on this :0. And while I'm always happy to hear a piano, I'd rather not have it plonking away randomly like it does here. It's not bad, exactly, it just washes over me without my getting wet, so to speak, at all. 5 / 10

Very nice match up. Still baffles me that among all the reggae-picks there is no Marley, Tubby or Perry.
The Martyns have always been a latent favorite and this song is one of the reasons why.

Rassclaat! More to the point that it wasn't the genre and simply the fact that the earlier Gregory Isaacs track was just not very good, A here is absolutely excellent. It also helps that it's been featured pretty extensively in the latest season for Luke Cage as something of a theme song for Bushmaster who's my current mancrush. Anyhow, the Martyns track is pretty damn good too, good match.
