Re: 70s Cup Final Round Match 2
Electricity is very primitive sounding OMD and has a lots of charm plus, like me, they're from the Wirral so I feel a bit of local loyalty, but they did go on to do better after the turn of the decade.
I don't have an awful lot of time for Dave Edmunds but he did do a couple of good singles that I really enjoy when they pop up and this Costello tune is one of them (Queen of Hearts is the other).
A tough choice but on balance I'll go B

Two good songs I like the match up.
A - very simplistic but with all the hooks. Nice vocals too over the synths.
B- oh god girls talk ( my brother played this song daily when it came out- 1st song on the album I would always walk out by the next song)- However, its a good song.
I'll take A

These are entirely in my wheelhouse. Its a pity these late 70s two pop nuggets have been drawn against one another when there’s always likely to be something less deserving round the corner. OMD are are their early bontempi Kraftwerk best on this, a streamlined beaut. And the Edmunds is moreish, repeat play pop nirvana, I never get tired of this one. Balls.

I'm surprising myself here by voting B

Not even close, my friend.
I like some OMD but this is so tinkly.
Agreed. There's a certain charm to B too, it reminds me rather explicitly of another track I know I like but I can't quite recall which. Though the stylings of these two usually dictate I'd go for the OMD, it just does very little for me in this case so B it is instead.

Re: 70s Cup Final Round Match 2
For the first time this Cup, two singles I own and like
a - tbh, I bought this because it was on Factory rather than any other reason, but it's a delightful, skipping piece of early synthpop (although the vocals never were all that, I thought, still think). Charming sound, vaguely naff bourgeois performers. Still, got £88 for it on discogs (that's just idle boasting, nothing to do with the record) - 6.5 / 10
b - Edmunds and Rockpile made several great singles with fine production and playing – Bremner's solos always bright and to the point – and I believe I even bought one or two of the albums. They certainly improve on the Attractions reading of this song. Good pop/rock song (my idea of proper pop music) by an unpretentious band that always delivered one way or another - 6.5 /10
According to my count (made a bit difficult by the amount of voters I have on ignore), Rockpile are three ahead, so I'm voting

Really?? I've got the 7 " on Factory too. It's probably scratched to fuck like all my singles, but if it's half way playable I'm selling it!

Is it in the black 'Braille' cover? https://www.discogs.com/release/11399
This is my copy:
Media Condition: Very Good Plus (VG+)
Sleeve Condition: Very Good Plus (VG+)
Electricity has some visible marks but plays beautifully, with just three light clicks in one channel, suggesting dust that could be removed with a pro clean. 'Almost' looks better, but has faint clicks at the beginning and occasionally throughout. Cover has the standard light ringwear, and about ten pin-head sized white spots in the back bottom left corner that I am at a loss to explain. All-round, though, a very nice copy, priced to sell.
