A was okay. Just
B was not.
Both lacking music but, reluctantly, a vote for

A because it's not The Dead Boys mainly.

A's interesting - what you'd get if Status Quo had signed to Stiff in '78
and the Dead Boys again, again with that tiresome vocal, which means it's not going to get my vote (the Rocket From The Tombs version certainly would, for what it's worth)

TWO Dead Boys tracks in the same round?! I mean, what the fuck.
The Angels would probably have been quite brave for an Aussie audience in 1998, let along late 70's. I'm voting for them because Heifer has an appalling taste in music and we should continue to encourage it. A

A isn't much of a song, but it has an interesting history. B is by-numbers punk, which is pretty much what the Dead Boys were all about. This one's at least a deeper dig, but it's no better.

I'm not loving Angels instead. Status Quo chug-a-long. That brief guitar motif could've been from Big Country, mind you.
Dr Alban remix? Post-Status Quo chug-a-long. There's just no attitude or aggression is there, it's all a but of nothing, bluster but lesser.
Nah, this round can do one.

Nah, this round can do one.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

A has a nice tune, I guess, but they don't do much with it, presenting it as a lacklustre andante chug rather than anything sparkling or exciting.
B is fiercer and louder but it's just not a very good song.

If ever a tie called out for an abstention it's this one. I think I'm beginning to understand why The Dead Boys have been forgotten from punk histories -they weren't very good. They're still preferable to a Status Quo tribute act though.

Re: 70s Cup Round 8 Match 8
The Angels did indeed chug along pleasantly enough but completely lacked any kind of hook that you'd get with a decent 70's Quo hit.
The Dead Boys song sounded just like the previous one which is no surprise at all.
I'll go for the poor man's Quo
