Grimes & Delivery - their only album together - part of the Canterbury Scene- ooooof!

A Phil Miller track - he of Matching Mole, Hatfield and the North and National Health fame and Pip Pyle of the latter two bands.

Not forgetting the legendary Roy Babbington (Soft Machine) on bass.

Great vocals from Carol - a track full of music

Tim Buckley track was tedious

B female led progressive rock acts are few and far between, and should be celebrated. A fine song.

It was bound to happen that Song to the Siren would appear, but it is a much too obvious choice. Perhaps on another day …

I don't normally notice stuff like this, but the upload quality of A is terrible. Not that it matters anyway 'cos it wouldn't get my vote - it's absolute drivel

A is one of those Buckley tracks that his fans usually try to feed me with, and I stopped trying to swallow it long ago.

B is fantastic, I had not heard of this lot, and now I need to get more.

Buckley has had a hard time of things with the comments in this cup, but let's consider what he does here - he releases folk music from its shackles and turns it into this sensual and exploratory form which reaches peaks of heartbreaking beauty. Musically, lyrically and vocally this is great art.
But since This Mortal Coil, it has become the go to Buckley track for those wanting to skim the surface of his work and as a big fan (mostly...I stated my reservations over a particular period of his work in another round) I find this a little frustrating.

I know nothing of B ( or at least I didn't until I read C's minibiog) so wasn't sure what to expect. I really liked it. I liked the swirling jazzy folky sound they created and the way this contrasted with the song's downbeat and melancholic feel. The vocals were great - bluesy and expressive.

For introducing me to something I'd like to hear a lot more of...B

I love "Song To The Siren". I've heard many wonderful versions of it - This Mortal Coil and Robert Plant spring to mind, but there have been many more. The trouble is, the only version I really don;t like is the original... I find Buckley's voice itself an almost impenetrable barrier to enjoyment. It always sounds so forced.

I've never heard B before but I quite liked it - nothing earth shattering but I kind of get a Jeffesron Airplane vibe and I'm happy with that.

B doesn't have anything that I like.

Alarmingly, I actually like the Tim Buckley pick. It's overwrought, which suits his voice, and while some of the lyrics are drama queenly to the max, other lines are quite touching.

I think Buckley got a bit lost in the '70s but A has become a standard for a reason: it's intimate and tender but it's also dramatic, powerful and artsy.

B is a ham-handed blues-prog clumper which frustratingly offers tantalising hints of something more delicate and folksy. A shame.

B is "full of music" indeed - a bit too full! No surprise Moddie likes it- it's definitely "too many cooks" in the same way as Rotary Connection (and also similarly, the singing is the best thing about it).

I get that this is the "go to" Buckley track, but nobody ever seems to go to it! So it's refreshing to my ears as well as one of his best songs. A.

Bloody hell, Buckley again. I'm praying he didn't record a reggae track at some point. This may be a more obvious pick, but it's clearly better than the previous two tracks. Even though his vocals are bold and mannered again, they appear to have far much more purpose and power, much less strained-strangeness. The way the backing wails and guitar bounce around the space is such a lovely thing. Y'know, if I'd have heard this before the other two tracks in the cup, I think I'd have gone out and bought an album tomorrow. I'm listening to it again, and it's a wonderful track. That is much, much more like it.

B's much more pleasant than I expected from the cover, a nice jazzy folk-rock effort with some genuinely ace bouncing bass. Unfortunately, as it goes on it gets a bit less appealing with the organ soloing and fuzzy rock bits. It's a shame that it has to be rooted in the rockist tradition, if it had fully escaped that it could've been a really nice pick.

A is the best thing since Ghedalia Tazartes so far. High praise.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

I like Song To The Siren but I think I prefer the covers I'm familiar with (This Mortal Coil obviously, and Robert Plant's too) to the original.

B was completely new to me and was pretty decent if not earth shattering.

I liked B ok, cheers for that one, picker - will check out that album. But A is pretty great and hard to deny, there's still a lot of magic in it.
