Easy A

Like the Lizzy and the album it comes from (Press Color)...Might have stood a chance against a different opponent or if it was from her more minimalist project, Rosa Yemen...

Not keen on The Slits, but B is preposterous in a way only French trying to rock can be

I've always liked the IDEA of The Slits - and them as people - much more than any of the racket they put out. I really enjoyed the doc I saw lately, they were about as cool as it gets, just fabulous individuals

B is loads of fun

That's not a good Slits pick and tends to highlight their worst aspects ( gimmicky gestures to override a lack of musical substance, tunelesness) while neglecting some of their strengths (interesting rhythms, sense of provocative fun).

I enjoyed B, I probably wouldn't bother going back to it too often (but then I was never much of a lover of the original) but it's a fresh pick here.

I know I should like The Slits, but I don't get it.

B is perky, and has an enjoyable 70s /80s transitioning sound to it - there's a bit of Duran Duran's 'Planet Earth' fizzing away underneath.

Is there a coherent song in A? I'm hoping not, there's been far too much slickness in this cup, so it's good to hear something that sounds chaotic, experimental, and a bit half-arsed all round. The vocals are absolutely bloody irritating/quite lovely at regular intervals of about 3 seconds. I don't know what to make of it, and I like that

Lizzy Mercier Descloux has been one of those names I keep meaning to investigate for ages, and I'm kinda disappointed what's been picked here feels like a bit of a novelty song. This kind of thing is what's been missing from the cup, European twists on the music emerging from the edgier areas of the US disco scene. That's normally right up my street. But this is a little bit light entertainment, when I wanted light entertainment with bite.

Good tie this one. A

Ooh, that's like, almost a song, but it very much intrigues me. I like it, despite the fact it feels inconsequential. I shall definitely check that album out.

I love the Slits but that's not the track I would have picked. But there's sure more for me in A than there was in B, which was a whole lot of nothing. Great outfit, though.

Well, when I first saw this match I thought i'd be voting for The Slits, but B has won me over. I like A quite a bit, but as P-girl says...

I'm a sucker for that New Wave/New Romantic sound when it's done well, or at least in a very catchy pop way.

It would be hard to find a song where I'd vote against the Slits and this ain't it.

The Slits had some good songs, but this one is just annoying. And white people should never put on a patois accent and commit it to record. Not a good idea.
B is a lot of fun. I like that LMD record - just gleefully throwing ideas around in the spirit of the age.

Slits were non-talents, an embarrassment even in their genre of crapola. A pre-cursor to riot grrrl, they should be banished from the Garden of Eden. The French one got the old maudit, Gainsbourg, on his feet, and for that alone, a handy and fromagey vote for B
