Cool beans. Play the ball, not the man, and all that.

Thanks.

A's weird collage of chants, groans, moans, yelps and spooky sounds was intriguing and quite compelling in places but I found the sudden random changes - such as the piano crashing in - a bit distracting almost as if the composer was getting a bit bored of the direction it was going. If this was the "Weird Cup" I'd probably vote for it (or even if it was up against something very dull) as it is it's up against a Coop track that I've always loved and one of those songs I never realized was a cover until decades later so successful was he in making it his own.

A is super interesting, but I am not sure I ever want to hear it again. B is standard Alice Cooper, Nightmare's stateliness mixed with Babies' deep hook, he'd do many of that ilk. Hell, I am going to give it to A for the chutzpah.

I was really hoping that A was some kind of bizarre eastern European folk music, but alas, it's some French avant-garde composer. Regardless, it's pretty wild, but I dunno, I guess I just wanted something a touch more organic rather than pieced together the way it seems to be. I'm still intrigued and will probably track down more by this guy, though, so I'm grateful for the exposure.

'Hello Hooray' has been used as the opening music for a radio show I used to listen to all the time, but now can't bear the thought of hearing. It's not a bad song, but it's weighed down by circumstances.

I'm gonna give this one to A.

Ha ha, A is sooooo bad, it’s comical. I’ll gladly accept being called a mainstream drone as that’s so far from my wheelhouse, it’s on another planet. I suspect that’s fine with it’s sponsor as well. And that Alice Cooper thing is rank as well. On the same extremely begrudging basis as my vote for the 801...

B is a strong Coop tune, and more than enough to get my vote.

I probably won't expose myself to A ever again, but B is one of the rare early Alice Cooper tracks I hate.

It's a nice Alice track but....

A is the kind of uneasy listening that keeps me fascinated rather than enveloped. I am sitting here after hearing this and still wonder what the fuck just happened. Wonderful.

Wasn't going to bother with this, seeing as B already has it sewn up, but I wondered what it was that had half of the voters clutching their pearls and gesturing for the smelling salts while a significant minority were thoroughly moved, so I thought I'd give it a go, even though it's French [/gratuitous xenophobia]
a - I'm finding the vocal section after the muezzin shut up very attractive - reminds me strongly of something else – lovely resounding harmonics in the voices. Are there any instruments, or at least non-vocal sounds? Ah yes, at 2.30 they begin, although for all I know they are treated voices. Still, glad to see them, wouldn't want another doo-wop track sneaking in  . A rather dull section in the middle that sounds a bit like someone doing a borborygmus solo while riding a squeaky unicycle, but that impassioned testifying vocal is back, with a drone and the squeaky wheel for accompaniment - suddenly reminded of Ivor Cutler! Yes, that's who this brings to mind the most. Blimey, that's a piano! first identifiable instrument just a minute before the end. How on Earth did anyone find this scary? Or a racket? I rather enjoyed it, very visual, lots of textural interest and, as I mentioned, some absolutely glorious cranium-cleansing harmonics in that early section. 6 / 10
b - nothing against Vince except his political affiliations and love of golf. The band made some excellent singles, but I never thought this was one of them, and this performance is pretty dull. Lasted two minutes. 4 / 10

Not mine although I'm pretty sure I've introduced the participant to the artist. :)

Which means, of course, that I deemed it good and interesting enough to share in the first place, and I do think it's a really evocative piece. I haven't heard B in ages and don't find it particularly offensive as others do here either, but A has this for me.

For such an unusual and “out there” selection the Ghédalia Tazartès track did amazingly well and I thought at one point it was going to nick it. It was certainly a thought provoking piece. The lack of love for Alice Cooper surprised me somewhat I must admit, I misjudged his popularity and I ended up quite relieved to get over the line.

I don't think you misjudged his popularity, Ray - I think it was the song selection. It's not a bad song, but I think they would have preferred something more bouncy.
