I have no problem with early 70s hairy rock, as I might have shown before, but Mountain is a band that never clicked for me, no sure why. And B is no exception.
I am not keen on Television, I feel there's some emperor's new clothes thing about MM, but A is a nice track at least nice enough to comfortably win here

A is much more gentle and prettier than I expected from Television and was not without its charms.

I use to only like the Weeekned World bits of Nantucket Sleighride but I've heard it so many times now that I've grown to love the whole thing.

The World in Action theme is far superior, although neither can hold a candle to the closing theme from The Sweeney (which isn’t a million miles away from WiA really).

a - with apologies for beginning with a trope of C-like levels of predictability, how nice that someone has chosen a track from Television's best album. I see that many people have noticed the quality of the guitars, and this is why (apart from the quality of the songs and production, naturally :-) ) Adventure knocks MM into a cocked hat, because Richard Lloyd's more lyrical style of playing gets more of a look in, cutting the angular angst of TV's style. This is a good pick, too - the harmonies on the title in the chorus is the best vocalising the band ever did. 6.5 / 10
b - Dreadful lumpen dirge 'classic' t. Hatz nailed it this time, I think: Leslie West may have lots of technique, but he's so profoundly dull in what he does with it. The fairground organ that occasionally turns up is a much more expressive noise. The 'riff' is a bit pants too. More of a hillock really.
3.5 / 10

Tough choice... i loved the Mountain track but, to be fair, I was a pimply adolosecent at the time and never quite understood why I found the 'rest' of the track a bit dull. Listening to it again, I know why now - it's a bit wishy washy, isn't it?

So A it is. Lovely understated guitars.

My second favourite track from Adventure ('The Dream's Dream' just edges it) in a no-contest win.

what about the hairy women who get blasted on whisky every night? huh? what about them??

on second thought, be careful how you answer that.

i do agree with the lovely, twinkling gweetar sounds in the television track.

however, i think that mountain track is... yes, yer hearin me right... beautiful.

I'm a recent convert to Mountain but in this match

A

takes it
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Well, as far as I can tell no women, hairy or otherwise, were involved in the recording of this song.

But maybe I'm being sexist and assuming that they're all men based on the picture?

Although actually the one at the back is a bit difficult. I think I have a picture of that one in a family photo album somewhere. Attacking my dad's car at a safari park.

i certainly don't mean to mock yer own personal family trauma. leslie west attacking yer dad's car at a safari park is wayyyy out of line. i think we would all agree on that. i take back my sexist pigdog comment. yer not sexist.

it was a disturbing trend, artists with long hair and freaky clothes in the 70s attacking parents. maybe it started in the 60s. frank zappa wanted his gweetar to kill yer mama. maybe jim morrison (the clean-cut and never-freaky) played his part, considering what he wanted to do to his own parents, but that's idle speculation.

i say we ban long-haired freaks not only from public places but from this competition. we all know that long-haired, freakily clothed bands played no worthwhile part in the 70s at all. mind ya, the list of bannees would be pretty fucquin long. what to do with abba? early bowie? david johanssen? are we including afros, dreads and freaky clothes? this is gonna get messy, methinks. hair virtue-signalling is so complicated.

it does explain yer loathing of hair and freaky clothes when it comes to one type of music though. thank god for the jackson sisters, sweeping away such a gweetar-based menace before any more parents are put at risk.

just you think about this: karen carpenter never attacked a car at a safari park.

... for all we know.

Had to look for alternate clips in both cases, but it was worth it - I really enjoyed both a lot.

A - Crunchy guitars nice vocals good thruout.

B- starts off slow but picks up with some nice Leslie West riffs along with a nice rhythm section.

The only good bit of B is the Weekend World bit. Easy win for the chiming A.
