I love Ian Dury but find it hard to vote for such a safe track

I'm not sure what I feel about A really, it feels like the kind of thing you should like, rather like watching a programme on slavery out of some sense of guilt and responsibility rather than because you're enjoying it. The voices were very powerful, but if I'm honest it struggled to hold my attention. Perhaps if I heard it in a different circumstance it would be a very powerful thing.
The Blockheads sound like a top notch US funk band who have been given loads of Quaaludes and told to play underwater. Which is a good thing obviously! One of Durys best lyrics (there's an abundance of great lines in this one) and the music is colourful and eccentric ( they really occupied their own genre didn't they?). Nice pick.

Two excellent choices, well played by both.
I love that ID and the Blockheads record, a cracking single that holds a great appeal for me still. A seems like a bit of an anachronism maybe, but deep down the best of the 70s soul groups still had doo wop at their heart, and the beauty in their voices still thrills me.

I cannot abide Ian Dury. For me, he's like a lite entertainment Billy Bragg.
Luckily, A is super. It's simple, it's soulful, and that vocal is fab.
A all the way.

A is very serious, isn't it? This kind of thing bores me though.
I can't really make my mind up about Dury, but this one is good - a smart lyric and an imaginative, unusual sound... although the quality on this upload is pretty shoddy.

Re: 70s Cup Round 7 Match 5
Avoiding beating the VS comments into the ground as much as possible, I really do prefer A - tribute to an older sound it may be, but Jerry Lawson was a fabulous singer, and despite being discovered by Frank Zappa (his love for doo-wop was one of the few sincere things about him), they were neither a novelty act not a staid museum piece. To my ears they exude joy whether there's a history lesson attached or not.
I like Dury a lot, and might have picked, say, "The Body Song" had I thought of it, but this particular track isn't really grabbing my ears at the moment.

Well another great match this round. I loved A, beautiful song and great singing, also quite unlike anything posted so far. Too bad that the opponent is a song (and an artist) I would have great difficulties to vote against, obvious as it may be the selection. Sorry A

A was interesting but lost my attention about half way thru.
B - I like this Ian Dury song mostly because it continues to grasp my attention thru out the song.
