Two really fun and interesting tracks that i loved; A is comfortingly familiar, and B was not despite the fact i'm sure i've heard some Exuma somewhere. Anyway, I really enjoyed the sound of B, cheers picker.

This is what I like the best about these ties-almost sure which one you are going to pick at first and the the other track sways you.
I'm sure Exuma appeared in an other Cup not solong ago and I went for it then too.

B. Beefheart is not big or clever. A dyspraxic chancer, a massive supernova of talentless arsefrippery.

Beefheart should win this tie easily, but my sympathy vote goes to Exuma. I found it a bundle of joy. B

classic Beefheart

B- at times sounds interesting and at other times it sounds like a 7th grade band mess.

a - In memory, this album is the least of what I consider to be the three comeback albums, after he alienated everybody with Bluejeans and Moonbeams, but I'd quite forgotten this track, with its lovely horn lines and *gulp* sparkling marimbas. Great to be reminded of it. 6.5 / 10
b - This is as new to me as almost everyone else. The jungular intro, with its cicada noises, is intriguing, but I was taken aback by the vocal at first. I see he was a Bajun, which explains a lot ( :-) ) and the whole thing makes more sense as a kind of mix of calypso with a marching band (well, it's just the bass drum thump that's reminiscent of that) and a lot of weed. Intriguing and jolly; as others have noted, this was an enjoyable, refreshing round, but the captain just takes it. 6 / 10

A is good. It makes me picture an Anatolian peasant bumping along a rocky mountain trail with his donkey and cart and consignment of ice for the pacha.

God damn... If match 9 wasn't good enough already. Some great passages and musicianship on A, and I'm with Fish about seeing this as potentially his best album - but I reckon there's five or six tracks from it I would have put before this. B seems to be more manic than the Captain himself, though - it's brimming with a joyful, infectious energy, and maybe because I haven't heard it in ages, it's appealing a little more to me this round as a reminder that I should give this another spin.
