I love the Clem Burke drums but "Dreaming" was a bit of a nondescript effort by their (very high) standards of the time.
The Davis 'tune' is really a 26 minute jam that has massive highs and desperate lows. But it does contain brilliance, which the Blondie doesn't.

Not a big Blondie fan, but this is one of their better tracks...vote for B

I suppose I really should be voting for Miles, as he's got John McLaughlin and a load of other heavyweight jazz dudes playing on his session. But sometimes, life is just too short for this stuff.
On the other hand the Blondie song has one of the cheekiest opening lines - When I met you in the restaurant, You could tell I was no debutante
So B much more fun!

I love avant-garde jazz as much as the next person but B is just fantastic. That sexy voice singing catchy lines, the post-punky drums, the rolling bass keeping everything together. Awesome.

Blondie put out a handful of decent little tunes but they were never really that great.

I'm a fan of the JJ album. It's got a raw, visceral feel compared to some of his other stuff from the same period. It kind of feels like cheating though, as if they're picking an album instead of a song ( although technically I understand it qualifies). The idea of punishing it by voting for a total pop act like Blondie rather appeals to me. The problem is I've never really cared for "Dreaming" ( the only thing I like about it is Clem Burke's rolling drums), almost any of their other singles up to, but not including, "Tide..." would probably have secured my vote.

I should just have quoted DD's comments which say the same thing much more succinctly!

Another shout out to the superb drums on B, and it might not be absolutely top-notch Blondie, it beats a 26 minute track which I'm not listening to.

I tried that Miles album recently and found it a boring, shapeless affair but, granted, it's the kind of thing that I should maybe persevere with but...life's short.
Dreaming is one of my favourite Blondie moments. I think it's really wonderful and don't get the slightly nonplussed reactions from some.

I can take or leave Blondie - apart from Atomic - but they win by default here.

okay. i admit it. A lost me. i listened to the whole ENtire thing. yeah, it had that slower section midway... sped up in weird ways after that. but i just got lost in the wash. i ended up with not enough anchor and too much drift.
meanwhile, a catchy blondie track is welcome.

Both tracks are brilliant, in my mind. A Tribute to Jack Johnson is right there with the very best releases from Miles Davis, but something about the melody and energy from B is really working with my mood today.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
