A sounded pretty good, that raw choppy guitar, the drums, the space around the instruments. I was thinking just the other day that titles matter - I really like In A Silent Way, but just can't listen to something called Bitches Brew, that's just horrible, man.
B is another great Blondie single though, hey, where are they in that 70s singles run thread?

I really like 'Dreaming', I think it's one of Blondie's best and am surprised to see it getting some stick here. That said, I feel a bit like Blondie are another band where someone's just gone "pick a random single" from a top artist. Dig a little deeper!
Miles Davis is a Big Name too, of course, but more challenging and rewarding: everything from this era of his work feels like a Deep Cut. This is one of the absolute highlights of this genre.

A, I suppose. Not very partying, but I saw the film and own the album. It's done out of a sense of duty.

Re: 70s Cup Round 3 Match 16
Both great.
I have a lot of time for JJ and '70s Miles in general, but i prefer my Miles in the 2 previous decades, tbh.
And i am getting on my soapbox now, to proclaim that the rabble who think 'Dreaming' is not a great song or single probably wouldn't be able to distinguish one if it fell on their fat heads. 'Dreaming' is just about the pinnacle of everything that was best about Blondie - a near perfect example of their updated take on 50s/60s pop married to punk/new wave brashness, featuring one of DH's greatest vocal performances. It is magnificent.

I like B a lot, actually, and I get what G's saying about a vote for A being a vote for the album, but it's by far my favorite 70s Miles album, so I'm comfortable with that.

I'm relatively new to JJ and I rate it above the much revered In A Silent Way or Bitches Brew, maybe it's the rockist in me because I feel it rocks harder. B is an absolutely fuckin' brilliant piece of late 70s pop, a scene that I adore. Tough, tough one. But I'll give it to the one that made me feel good this morning.

Ugh that's hard.
I like Blondie, but then I listened to the whole of the Miles track and that was a very enjoyable ride - it won't convert me and I might never feel to urge to listen to it again, but thanks A

I like both of these but today I'm in more of a mood for a short and sweet Blondie song rather than 26 mins of Miles.

Re: 70s Cup Round 3 Match 16
DD is right - A has brilliance and B doesn't. three or four times a year I sit down with Miles for a couple of hours. If a scientist had nothing better to do than to scan my skull before & after I'll bet they could prove that I was a better person after listening to Miles than I was before.
I'm going to defend Blondie now. I agree that "Dreaming" really isn't much of a song but I think Blondie were "in the zone" when they recorded it. they were the right band with the right sound in the right place. they knew it and they got that confidence in the grooves of their records. I seriously doubt that I'm a better person after I listen to "Dreaming" by Blondie but it sure feels good while it's going down.

That Miles track seems to have a word missing at the beginning of the title. Allow me. Fuck.

25 minutes of some hasbeen bebopper blowing fart noises into a looped metal tube or three minutes of the best pop band of the ’70s doing what it says on the tin? Hm. [scratches chin for three nanoseconds]

Preparing Round 5 now to put up on Sunday with A in the background and it is really nice.
Dreaming is a top single and one of Blondie's finest but hey....

In terms of the Blondie singles, they have about half a dozen that I think are very wonderful indeed - Hanging, Picture This, Union City, Heart of Glass, Presence, Atomic, Rapture. Then there is a second tier of good - I'd put Dreaming in this tier ( the chorus is too limp to make it in the top tier) along with Sunday Girl and Denis. Then there is the not very good tier of Call Me, The Tide, Island.
Just my opinion of course

What about the great trio they started with - In the Flesh, X Offender, Rip Her to Shreds? There was a Blondie before Denis, tha' knows.

Yeah, 'X Offender' especially is top-shelf Blondie for mine.
