The Jimmy Cliff track is a standard reggae tune of the period - I like it but it's never seeped into my consciousness like the best reggae does.

The Curtis track suffers from alot of his more difficult traits - overly long, cloyingly sweet lyrics and failure to really progress from the initial buzz.

Still ... I have to say that B just shades it.

B is certainly stirring stuff! Curtis always get the right balance between the music and his political polemic. I have to agree with DD that the track is overlong, probably by 1or 2 minutes. The improvisations at the end should have been edited out.

Jimmy Cliff a classic song, but perhaps just a bit too familiar for this competition. Is the song ska rather than reggae? Just asking ….

Both great, but I think the Curtis track is a kind of inferior rehash of 'If There's A Hell Below...'

A is a wonder

A is objectively great, but too overfamiliar for me now. There's some other tracks of his I'd rather hear.
I take what JC's saying about the song in B, but this one's all about Johnny Pate's dynamic arrangement for me...one of his best.

I'll echo what Moddie says about both tracks but add that the fuzz bass in 'Beautiful Brother..." is just fucking monstrous!

I'm totally with JC on this one. B is Curtis ripping himself off. A is a Kanon Klassik for a reason.

Never liked the Cliff tune.

I think I like this Curtis pick best so far.

A is great, but the title track from the best-known non-Marley reggae album ever? At least pick something else from it.

I get the criticisms of B, and I probably could do without the long playout, but it's still Curtis at his peak, and beautifully sung and arranged, in addition to being a slightly deeper cut.

Both great - and as a 'song' A is unappreciated at times - but the one i'm much more likely to spin these days is B. Fabulous arrangement.

i'll be in the both great party.

i often find myself in the position where one track makes me happier, and the other engages me more and has more meat on dem bones. i agree with the comments on the arrangement in the curtis track, although i do think it ran longer than it needed to be.

sigh. okay, i'm going with the whole making me happier thing.

Great match-up indeed. B is Curtis in super form, but it lost me a bit towards the end (that guitar ... tsk tsk). Trying to listen to A with fresh ears made me realize (again) what an effin' great song it is ... that chord change in "sure as long as the sun will shine" still gets me some thrill.
