Wow, can't believe the stick Tim Buckley is getting, it is of course brilliant and a classic, his voice is a marvel and it wins in a canter.

A strikes me as something I would like if it had a different, and better, singer.

B seems to be the poppiest song ever recorded by a goth band, so it wins this one.

I'm not sure why The Monochrome Set have been called goth a few times on this thread...I don't remember them having any connection with even the proto-goth stuff.

Tim’s been down to the Meat Rack Tavern and is now slinking home to face the music. The trouble with this track is, the intro is so good the rest pales by comparison.

It’s a fantastic song. I have to listen to it right now in fact.

Here's a rarity - I know both of these pretty well, own them
a - the problem I had with fully embracing Buckely at the time was, in retrospect, the way his longer tracks seemed to be created as dramatic events with incidental music, and a very loose structure, and his tendency to declaim and/or warble rather than sing a song. Of course, I'm hardly in a position to complain about vocal unorthodoxy, so... What I'm saying is that there are some undeniably pretty bits in this, but they just don't hang together, as a song or a drama, for me. 5 /10
b - This is simply a joy. Even though I tended to play the b-side, Lester Leaps In, more often than this, it remains one of the two or three best singles - with its delightful cover image of whirling Dervishes – by a great singles band. Sure, Bid was a bit of a prat, but the insouciant swagger of the band, and Mr Square's querulous guitar style in particular, made this a jolly romp. Oh, and they were the opposite of Goth. 6 / 10

Both represent a time (in the 80s mostly ) that I listened to both... and it's very hard to pick a winner.
