My list:

Fela Kuti & the Africa 70 - Roforofo Fight
Chico Buarque - Construção
Caravan - In the Land of Grey and Pink
Strawbs - The Hangman and the Papist
Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes - Diborowska
Jorge Ben - Zumbi
Magma - De Futura
Neil Ardley - Three Poems

Pretty happy with how this list performed, even if I did ultimately lose against the ace of swords in the last round. Some of these performed much better than expected, and even the response to Magma's, which I expected to lose anyways, was better than I anticipated. For what it's worth, I'm glad to have both helped people discover some new stuff, and get some new stuff to look into myself.

Ultravox! - Artificial Life (Peel Session)
The Monochrome set - eine symphonie des grauens
Dinosaur - Kiss Me Again
Steeleye Span - Dark-eyed Sailor
Throbbing Gristle - Tesco Disco
Anne Briggs - Willie O Winsbury
Robbie Basho - Blue Crystal Fire
Thomas Leer - Monochrome Days

Probably a bit too folk heavy, I knew I should've put a Last Poets track in there. It would still have lost, but it would've added more variety.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Clearly a list lacking in eclecticism and appeal to anyone other than myself:-

Rotary Connection - I am The Black Gold of the Sun
Mick Ronson - Slaughter on Tenth Avenue
Earth Wind & Fire - Serpentine Fire
Steely Dan - My Gold Teeth
Richie Lee Jones - Young Blood
Weather Report - Mysterious Traveller
Chairman of the Board - Life & Death
Cat Stevens - Into White

I hope this competition runs again next year, so I can try some new tactics.

I like your list almost as much as my own! The Lou Rawls you had lined up, all-time fave!

Well, here's what a minus 102 pts. list looks like. Going in, I tried not to pick too obvious, had no idea that tactic would pay off. I am glad that the one tie I did manage to win was with "Barrio Nuevo", even if it was ridiculed by some as "elevator music". Nothing could be further from the truth.

Linval Thompson — I Love Marijuana
Norman Connors - You Are My Starship
Barry White - Playing Your Game, Baby
Looking Glass - Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)
Redbone - Come and Get Your Love
Santana - When I Look Into Your Eyes
Mountain - Nantucket Sleighride
Louie Ramirez - Barrio Nuevo

I don't think my list looks like it could ever get close to the Finals.

1. The Fall - Two Steps Back
2. Pagliaro - Lovin' You Ain't Easy
3. Robert Calvert - Ejection
4. Dwight Twilley - I'm On Fire
5. Cornelius Bros. & Sister Rose - Treat Her Like a Lady
6. Crabby Appleton - Try
7. Carly Simon - That's the Way
8. Harry Nilsson - Coconut

I lost #4 and #8. The Nilsson was for fun.

Psychedelic afrorock fusion
Masterful soul deep cut
No Wave/mutant disco cover of classic rock song
Psych-jazz folk Classic

Surely the Pina Colada Song has a sumptuous interlude?

Just so everyone is aware... I am taking very careful note of the ridiculous criticisms of my four Final tunes and will be taking it up with you at the conclusion of the contest.
