In a song vs. song format, though, I bet you could get away with eight blindingly obvious tracks since they come up in isolation. In the proper, or "2013 BCB Cup Format" you needed a little more panache.

The main cup has disappeared up its arse. We've picked everything there is I think, which is why any list, no matter how imaginatively put together, is likely to be met with a jaded cynicism. I like the simplicity of this format, it gets back to the idea of songs without all the other contextual bollocks.

I blame you and the poncey foreign muck brigade for infecting the cup.

I've picked obvious but great stuff here. At least with this format it brings it back to the power of the song. Maybe we've just come full circle

After 2 rounds I've largely enjoyed most of the choices so far to varying degrees. It comes a relief after the 90s cup when I struggled with 90% of the offerings.

Or the soul or R&B so far. It's a very rich area for that kind of music and I don't know why people are picking stuff so obscure. The '70s are the era where Al Green, Parliament, the Ohio Players and Earth, Wind & Fire walked the earth. Heck, even James Brown namechecks the Ohio Players in Get Up Offa That Thang.

I agree, but that music is a minority taste on bcb, or at least among the ones that regularly do the cups. If you've picked one of those you've just got to hope you get drawn against something really bland and mainstream that the serious rock/alt rock brigade will hate even more!

You get two points for a win always regardless of how many votes you've gotten (and one if you draw). The vote difference acts as a tiebreaker between users with equal points. So, nothing is lost just yet!

I don't mind losing at all. Just taking part is half the fun. It's just that I've kept the guilty pleasures in check this time as they got me exactly nowhere in previous cups. So I am/was hoping for a slightly better result...
