Automatic vote for the Stones!
At least The Fall were quite interesting and different at the end of the 70s, and much more appealing than the mediocre art-rock they produced from the mid-80s onwards.

Never got the love for Exile On Main Street. The band were clearly going for a certain feel but forgot to write any tunes. In short, it's the type of complacent 70s megastar bollocks that Mark E Smith was railing against. He was right too....

I love Exile and might choose 'Rocks Off' or 'Soul Survivor' over B, but that one's nothing more than a water-treader. Why pick it?
B is an example of The Fall at their strangest and their most powerful.

Not one of my fave Stones albums but this is a good choice - with some life in it to keep the interest
B I enjoyed more than I thought I would. It held my attention and I didn't get bored. Nice

A isn't much of a song (Jagger & Richards had largely lost their songwriting gift by this stage)and Jagger sounds constipated on the vocal, but there's enough sass and swing, particularly from Bobby Keyes and Nicky Hopkins, in the playing to carry it through triumphantly.
B is early Fall at their most difficult and willfully obtuse. There are many early Fall tracks I'd rather have heard. Interesting match up tho'!

Exile on Main Street really is a great big turd of a record. I've come to like the Stones a lot, but this is a step too far. In fact I believe that the fact people give them a free pass for their coke-addled, bone-idle, song-free efforts on that album is why they've spent the forty years since travelling the world telling people to give them big piles of money. They know they can get away with it.
The Fall delight me and irritate me in equal measure, and I'm always apprehensive when I see a title and can't immediately call to mind what the track sounds like. In the event this one is just fairly standard early Fall: a bit scratchy and incompetent, a bit abrasive and raw, and full of bits that make me want to like it and bits that stop me from doing so.
But it's not on Exile on Main Street so I am happy to vote for it.

I'm not sure "Ventilator Blues" would make my top 15 songs on 'Exile,' but I would probably pick any pre-'75 Stones track over anything by the Fall 90 percent of the time, although I did like the groove on this one, and the no-chops guitar work.

That's one of the only Fall lps I had when I was younger, and I'd rather hear it than Exile these days

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Although I largely agree with this comment, I wouldn't say there's much of a song in the Fall effort either. I find it interesting how they tend to be given a free pass on that.
BTW not picking on your post here, just using it to make a general point.
