Again, two tracks I know backwards.

I'm not a massive Slade fan and haven't really got past their singles. This is a good one though.

JD on the other hand are right up my street and I am a massive fan.

A great track selection

Another tough choice, but A squeaks it.
If you've got nothing to do, don't do it here.

Not even going think too much about this. I've just had too much of JD's misery and angst.

Slade all the way, get down, get with it!

I didn't think this track was released in the '70s, but I see it barely snuck in. Good choice.

Fascinating mix of two tracks from the opposite ends of British rock. Slade have an undeniable yobbish appeal that still works, but Joy Division have one of the most remarkable debut albums of all time, and the opening track demands attention. The greatest British band of all time

A predictable vote for:

I'd nearly always take Slade over JD - they're a band that produced some of the best singles of the decade. Unfortunately 'Coz I Luv You' isn't one of them

a label like Dutch Disky

One comp to avoid, though, is Disky's "Best of the 70's"

Normally, Disky are clever at repackaging

Joy Division really are a product of the '70s: paranoid, urgent, industrial and devastating.

It's hard to be negative about Slade, they're always enjoyable, but they're outclassed here.

A favourite early JD track of mine. It shows their ability to build something very powerful from relatively little. Curtis is utterly compelling on this.

The Slade track is fine, its warmth is very attractive and no doubt it would have won in quite a few of the ties tonight. But as Devoto once said "it doesn't move me".

The other's a little lumpen.
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

That’s a mighty JD pick, capturing their urgent early intensity perfectly. And I dig the Slade as well, even if I think of Transit vans when I hear it now. Enjoyable match (and there’s been a lot of them, to be fair).
