I liked A for about three minutes... it had a stop and I thought "That's nice"...but it was only a bastard pause and then I got five + minutes more of it. Overkill.
The Cerrone track is right up in the pantheon of that particular genre. Magnificent tune. Easily B for me.

Re: 70s Cup Round 1 Match 9
Ah, The Trees Community, one of the few oddball folk records from this time that I don't really like. Incidentally, I almost chose The Trees "The Garden of Jane Delawney" for this cup, but as C points out, that's from a different forest. This track on its own is actually rather pretty, if a little Sound of Music, and is making me wonder if I should revisit the album, but I think it just becomes all too cloying and eventually beats your brain into a pulp with overly mannered squawking.
B is closer to my kind of disco than the earlier soul-based efforts. Colder, more angular, and a with more emphasis on the experimental side of things. Good tie this one, an overlong folk oddity followed by an overlong disco stomper. It's what you want from the cups, albeit without the overlong aspect.
I'll vote for A, it's closer to my kind of thing, a good choice, and 92 seconds shorter than B.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

The flutey bit in A reminds me of Fingerbobs.
I like the heralding of the 80s ( the decade the 70s could have been ) in B.
Again, I could happily do without the vocals, but

Ugh, don't like either. I guess I'll vote for the danceable one.

If i'm gonna be dancing around the hedgerows or maypoles or big phallic druid rocks, i'd rather it was to B.

Church vs Club
Both over the top excess, one in the church pushing christ and the other on the dance floor pushing what God doesn't want to see.
A only because I like classical style music, Although this isn't very good.

A managed to be a combination of folky, Christian, twee, sinister and Christmassy. Twee and Christmassy dominated too much as times.
B was a great Moroder-style bit of excess. Perhaps a tad too long but that's a minor quibble.

B is groovy and enjoyable enough, and like plenty of electrodisco at the time I also sort of like the cinematic quality that comes out of how closely it remits back to that disco excess imaginary and so on. But A is absolutely brilliant, those vocal arrangements are a thing of wonder.

B is top-notch disco, but A is just charming.
In spite of still being as agnostic as ever, my heart is with the Christians.
Inspired pick, A

The fuckers who made shite like B with that Euro disco groove have a lot to answer for.
Mind killing garbage.

Re: 70s Cup Round 1 Match 9
Both very bold picks for totally different reasons, and both ones that intrigued me greatly, but not for their entire length.
So, ultimately, sacred vs. profane?
All I can say here is, in the early 70s, people like A were referred to as "Jesus Freaks." And praise be to God on high, there is obviously much emphasis on the freaky part here. B is certainly enjoyable, but as BCB's resident religious nut ( ) it's not quite as much my cuppa.

Re: 70s Cup Round 1 Match 9
The saccharine opening of A was almost enough to pass on this track but I persevered and found myself intrigued enough to sit it out.
B i know by heart. It'll win in a canter I think. But a was kinda brave. Pastoral prog, whodathinkit.
