Nonsense to the aggressiveness, I've seen more aggression on the my little pony message board......I mean I was told.

I know these both very well... a friend of mine was a huge John Martyn fan but he never got close to persuading me of his 'genius'. A is a pleasant tune, but never really goes very far and I find Martyn's stylised vocals a tad wearing after a while.
B is a beautiful song of that genre - it still sounds fresh and wins this easily, in my mind.

Solid Air is an old favourite and love it to bits. The Rotary Connection is completely new to me and I liked this a lot with a cool hippy vibe.
close but I'll go with the timeless Solid Air A

A bit too much going on in B for me.

I like both of these. I find those Vibes irresistible.

B I have the lp and have listened to it once. That was enough. A should have been slaughtered at birth. Utterly without any redeeming factors.

Re: 70s Cup Round 1 Match 6
nice John Martyn tune. tend to listen to his live stuff these days.
B- BCB has played this for me before and believe my brother had this album. I like the beginning and parts of the rest of the song. Nice soothing groove although the end is a mess (that is something we tend to like but not here).

Really enjoying B, and it's new to me to boot. I've never gotten along with A or that album in general, I just don't get what it's trying to say to me I suppose, and as such I feel it's a track that feels content to fill some void of silence or whatnot.

Unfortunate match for John Martyn - I opened the thread thinking he would win hands down against anyone.
But B is a monster, thanks to whoever posted it.

Re: 70s Cup Round 1 Match 6
Two things I always expect to like more than I actually do, but I eventually came to the conclusion that Martyn just ain't for me. He can sing and play, but I always end up bored.
I came to the same conclusion about RC too, to a lesser degree, but can't deny that B is a pretty monumental track. A bit of a BCB Canon one, as G has gone on about it many times through the years, but it still engages me a lot more than A.

Re: 70s Cup Round 1 Match 6
a - so what's up with his voice? Has he had a stroke? Is he totally pished? or is he so embarrassed by his own words that he mumbles it? Lord knows I tried (as was my patience) with this guy, as a lot of my contemporaries waxed enthusiastic over his guitar style and, ahem, emotional impact, much as they did with Nick 'Mummy my teddy's stopped breathing' Drake, although the later sounds like Hendrix compared with this alky's attempts at heroin chic nod out music. Oh fuck off you timewaster. 2.5 / 10
b already been exposed to this on this board in the BCB 100 songs - never heard it when it came out. This is what I wrote then:
I was mightily impressed from the start, and I'm a sucker for female chorales, but doubts started to creep in with the male vocal and ultimately it all dissolved into its constituent parts. It also sounded to me, a notoriously unreliable ear-witness, like several other things in the soul, R&B and pop fields - not all through, but in bits - and...thought it was very much of its time, especially the production and arrangement. In its time it would certainly have been one of the better things around, because 1971 was the beginning of the Dark Ages.
I think I can stand by that. 5.5 / 10

B is part of that Mas Que Nada- scene, as I call it, a sort of easy listening with choral vocals that pleasantly meanders along. It's not setting my world alight but it is, errr, sumptuous enough.
A is a good track from an otherwise excellent artist. Very nice to hear this.
