Clearly folk were listening to very different music to me in/from the 70s.

Idris is not to my taste at all. I thought the vocals were very insipid

Somewhat optimistically, I've been mulling over the tracks I might pick should I fluke it and make the final. A was going to be my number one choice, and I regret not including it in my original selection. Obviously that's gone now, but I'm really pleased someone's picked it. Expansive and sensual with a masterful arrangement, it is, for me, probably the greatest disco track of all time.
I know Chrome were part of that no wave scene, but I don't know their music at all. It seemed very much of its time, but on first listen it didn't make me think it was some kind of lost classic..a little disappointing.

A is all kinds of amazing, just love that kind of lush soul music. Chrome I find more interesting in concept than execution. There were a number of bands of the time doing something similar in a much better way.

A sucked me in with incredible instruments, vocals, cool flourishes abounding... it's a damn groove.

it made chrome sound like three-chord-city with a strep infection by comparison.

and i LIKE chrome, so just be gettin off my ass now.

Funk is simply not my thing at all so 8 minutes of the stuff really tests my patience.

Chrome on the other hand absolutely is. It goes above and beyond to be more unique and strange than most post-punk and noise rock of the time. Awesome.

A is what I believe is commonly referred to as a "monster jam". Sumptuous production and all that bollocks.
Chrome are one of those groups who sound quite interesting until you actually hear them.

Well, this is a weird tie, because I could've sworn I picked "March of the Chrome Police" in my list, and was going to ask Maarts why he'd picked two of my tracks in the first round, before I double-checked, and saw that I must've dropped it at the last minute. The thing with Chrome is that they weren't part of any scene (close to 3,000 miles away from the no wave bods), they seemed to emerge out of nowhere, with a properly distinct sound. A bit of Stooges and MC5, and a whole lot of random radio interference, wonky tape-loops and random swooshes of muddy electronics. Pretty unique, I think. I'm not sure that anyone even tried to build on their sound later, it was there while Creed and Edge where together, and then it disappeared. A proper slice of art.

A is far from being my kinda thing, if I get disco, it tends to be the edgier, more angular side of things. This has a plush sound, it's been wrapped in velvet and sprinkled with diamante crystals, and I'm fairly sure I wouldn't care at all for it if it wasn't for the way the drums are brought right to the foreground in the mix. It's a nicely constructed thing, and a good choice for something out of my comfort zone. Unfortunately, Chrome are written into my very DNA, I could no more vote against them than I could vote Tory.
