Neither of these have ever been on my radar.
What I have heard of Zevon has been harmless and ok - easy listening.
Split Enz have not done anything I have been keen on (but admittedly I haven't heard much)
The Split Enz track is no exception - not to my taste - very superficial
Another weak, disappointing match for me so it's a lacklustre reluctant

Re: 70s Cup Round 1 Match 3
I rather agree with my learned friend C here.
Neither do it for me at all, but I'm going to try to refrain from abstaining.
I find Zevon's sluggish bar room rock utterly unimaginative. It seems all the thought has gone into the lyrics. Split Enz's quirky, jerky new waveisms are deeply unappealing too.
I'm going B for the frankly rubbish reason that Split Enz have done a track I quite like, even if it isn't this one.

Awful start. Split Enz I have long since ditched, Warren Zevon - may have a CD stashed away somewhere. This vote won't be for which I like the most, but which I hate the least.

Not one of the better songs by Split Enz which is a pity.
I fully buy into the Warren Zevon schtick. A great song with typically sardonic lyrics by Zevon.

Jeeesus - MORE novelty pop?!?
Split Enz only did one great song - and I love it to pieces. This one is just awful.
Warren Zevon had no kind of voice, but I liked him - and I liked this one a lot.

I found A a bit monotonous and I liked the energy of B even if it is a bit of a nothing song.

I like Waren Zevon's literate cynicism a lot, but tonight the nervous energy of the New Zealanders makes a lot of sense.

A is some stodgy pub rock bollocks. It reminds me of Jools Holland.
B is a catchy little number that has just the right amount of quirk before it becomes grating.

Neither do much for me at all. A has all the piano rock affectations which I find most outright irritating of its era (yes, I know the track is not specifically piano-driven but the sound still recalls that to me), and B's just too anemic and safe to make any punky/new wavey quirks actually infectious or charming or, bleh, anything other than annoying. It's A for me, I suppose.

Nonsense to the aggressiveness, I've seen more aggression on the my little pony message board......I mean I was told.

Warren Zevon is some kind of unholy marriage of barroom rock stodge and smartass lyrics.
B is alright, energetic and nervy even if it all sounds a little second-hand.
