An interesting clash of dance music here, the tasteful and acclaimed Carl Craig, against the cheap and cheerful Altern 8 chucking an atari against a wall. I wonder if PP Arnold adds enough class to get it over the line. The competition has really been missing tracks that defined the times, and there's nothing more 90s than shoddy rave tracks, dayglo yellow, and sped-up video clips. "They're going mad!" - tosser.

B's a bit more interesting, but didn't care much for either.

Gr8, a dance off.

I prefer A.

Never hear either of these artists before, not in my wheelhouse - I refuse to dance if I don't have a Frisbee to make sense of it, and I've never been to a club or ballroom in my life.
a - are there going to be vocals – I kind of hope not? this is rather pretty, a real producer's track, although it loses a bit of its attractiveness as it gets more complex - that wacka-wacka percussive noise gets on my tits a bit, I much prefer the keyboard sounds and the swooshes - but I listened to it all. 5 / 10
b - pedanticus says I fucking hate the use of '8' to represent 'ate', so fuck them. Oh and this is all clattering and shouting. And a minute or so of PP Arnold 20-odd years past her stint in the Ikettes isn't really enough to lift it. 4 / 10

Oh yes, Carl Craig, Planet E, very nice. Reliably pretty, groovy and soulful.
B is a bit of nostalgic amusement for those who were there at the time, but it sounds a bit clunky now, if a fun listen.

Altern 8 were like the Lonnie Donegan of their time. Just as skiffle was a low budget, amateurish British response to a very American genre, so Altern8 were an attempt to replicate Chicago and Detroit house/techno with two bob and two sheets of sticky back plastic. The results were ugly, clunky and mildly eccentric. I don't mind it actually, but The Prodigy would be along shortly to execute the same idea with a lot more flair.
A is an altogether classier affair. Chicago house at its most elegant and restrained.

Actually, The Prodigy were already out around this time. I was going to pick "Out of Space", which is a better track, but something everyone would already know.
