A sounded like a Lou Reed album track played at 45. It was quirky, but not in a way that gave me much pleasure.
B is probably too conventionally mainstream to get the BCB vote, but, as tasteful Americana goes, I quite enjoyed it.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Both enjoyable for different reasons. I'll go with Emmylou because I liked the mood it set, plus of course it's hard to vote against one of my favorite voices in country music.

Decent match, but B I reckon is much better.

Nonsense to the aggressiveness, I've seen more aggression on the my little pony message board......I mean I was told.

A track from the 37th greatest album of all-time, according to Kurt Cobain. I mean, did any of you even stop to consider that? I think it's the closest I can get to quirky without vomiting. It's just a bimbling bag of fun, drenched in sunshine. Makes me smile, and go all warm and tingly.
B's quite a good track, too, I have to say. I think it would be better stripped back, it doesn't need the backing vocals, and it certainly doesn't need that farty electronic bass. But yeah, that's an unexpected pick for the final. Good choice.
Abstain.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

I liked A. It was quirky and lo-fi, warning signs both, but bouncy, tuneful and amusing. Definitely hints of Lou Reed but I was also reminded of something like The Homosexuals in its unpretentious, spiky artiness. One of the few nice discoveries of the cup for me.
I thought I knew exactly what to expect with B so the trip-hoppy beats were a bit of a surprise. I rather liked this one too, but I might have preferred to hear a "straight" version without the whomping bass.

I like A, but I like B more in the end. Lovely vocals and interesting tune.

Re: 90s Cup Grand Final Match 7
Fuckety fuckety fucksticks. At last HJ make an appearance, and they're up against a track from one of the few albums released in the last 30 years that I think is indisputably great, and I've listened to dozens of times. Oh well
a - Jad Fair is some kind of genius, but he can be a bit hit and miss. This has what I think of as a lovely guitar sound (and bongos - surely not?) and bags of charm, rather like Jonathan Richman, and vocals that make no pretence at singing (which can be a good thing when HJ are involved), but lacks madness. It's unfamiliar to me, though, and a good find. 6.5 / 10
b - From an album where EH covers Neil Young, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan, as well as more centre-field picks by Lucinda Williams and the McGarrigle Sisters (both of whom should have been in this competition, you cloth-eared clods), and gets a stellar production, this one, by Julie Miller, isn't the track I would have chosen, but there's no denying Emmylou's voice. 6.5 / 10
Because it's new to me, I'm giving this to Jad, but really it could have gone either way, and I may yet come back for a second listen.

A does a slightly updated C86 thing that’s quite appealing but a little weak. B just feels like a stronger pick all round -better sound, better played, better sung.

A aspires to half baked decent pop tune.
Emmylou's track sounds ( to me) much like her cover of Joni's "Magdalene Laundries" which I really loved too. B it is.
