I kind of wanted to like A more than I did. I liked its bright production, but the song just isn't very attractive. It seemed too winsome, like listening to a nursery rhyme and the chorus fell rather flat.
B is one of Weller's strongest solo efforts: a full bloodied vocal, an interesting melody with plenty of twists and turns and I really like some of the quasi-psychedelia arrangement and production ideas - love the flute!

Didn't care for A.

I'm behind G on this one - the vocal is full and strong, and the 70s-sounding nuances are charming.

Jesus. A sounds like Barenaked Ladies, or They Might Be Giants or something. Singing a nursery rhyme. Why?

I can't understand why someone would listen to Paul Weller in the 90s, this kind of thing was old hat by the mid 70s. I mean, I know there's some pretty conservative people, musically speaking, on this board, but for fuck's sake, this is like attending a lecture about Steve Winwood.

A is wretched, but it's not Paul Weller.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

A had lots of poor vocals.

B was nicely conservative.

While neither of these was really my '90s at all, i'm going with B. A's vocals still let it down after all these years.

A is very weedy, but I've always liked it: it's a pleasant earworm.
B sums up my problems with solo Weller: there are some nice things going on but I don't think the various styles he throws in match each other, and the overly beefy production leaves his vocal sounding a little too close to a Tom Jones bellow.

I’ve always liked A as well, a minor radio hit at the time and still sparkly fun. I’m going through a kind of mini Weller revival of my own at the moment and B sums up the best of his first solo phase. Nice picks but going for PW as picking solo tracks by him is almost always Cupicide.

It is. People project so much onto him that they barely listen to the track. You'd think Chris De Burgh had been picked from some of the comments on here.

I'm a Weller fan and this is one of his better efforts so it has to be B

A is annoying.

B sounds like it should be the theme tune to a TV programme starring Jimmy Nail.

B, but I'm not very happy about it.
