Re: 90s Cup Final Round Match 3
I've never quite understodd the adulation for The Pogues, and this doesn't exactly further their cause.
I like the Cocteau track well enough, but it sounds like it was released at the start of the 80's, let alone the 90's. But it's still miles better than the first track, so B it is.

A is utterly indistinguished pub rock. I'm afraid Shane is running on empty here.
I gave my reservations about this Cocteaus album earlier, but this is a lovely track.
Easily.. B

Shane is fucked by this stage, but it is a pretty decent lyric still.
B is a great song from a great album. Not as good as my choice - Heaven or Las Vegas - mind. But this song does that slow climax thing they do so well, not as well as Carolyn's Fingers, but still really seductive. Love Liz Fraser.

Moorcock, Moorcock, Michael Moorcock, you fervently moan.

The Pogues etc were always so tedious. I can be ambivalent about the Cocteau Twins, but this is great.

Christ, Shane with The Pogues at their best were great. This is just sad.

I did, yes! Thanks - that would have been a grim mistake!

God, I couldn't be sicker of NPR playlist 90s. Which seems to be all the rage around these parts. May Nic Harcourt soundtrack the rest of your miserable lives. A.

Blimey. I never liked The Pogues, but it's properly sad to hear Shane McGowan in such a sorry state. What a wretched, hackneyed, disaster of a pub rock racket. I'm properly surprised this has been picked, it seems in really bad taste.
Not sure I really need to click on B, it's The Cocteau Twins, it's blindingly obvious what it's going to sound like. It's not going to be pub rock, is it? Always pretty, always good to hear just one song by.

I'm not a big Pogues fan or anything, but I still find that depressing. What were you thinking, A?
I'm not a big Cocteaus fan or anything, but this is fine, even if not as nice as their best '80s moments.
