I like, and have, quite a bit of Blur - sometimes they're a sensational act. But not here I'm afraid. (Trend developing here!).
I'm not mad keen about the Autechre, but it wins here. A

Not sure why you would pick B from Blur's 90s output..

A and its ilk leave me cold. The Blur choice is a triumph by comparison.

Jeez, just a moment ago I thought Shy FX & UK Apache vs Lynyrd Skynyrd was the most unfair match.

Re: 90s Cup Final Round Match 2
Both tracks are similar in that they're one idea over extended. But Blur's idea is better.
Autechre seem to get taken very seriously by the chin stroking brigade, but I don't think there's a lot there. This is just a few quite basic synth washes with some ugly wooshing noises on top.
I used to like B more than I do now. This was Blur dabbling in shoegazing in retrospect. It feels quite thin now, although it does have a certain anthemic quality.

The Blur vid keeps freezing on me, and that doesn't seem to be happening with any others. Anyone else having that problem?
Nonetheless what G is saying rings true, though I tend to think that, not just of Autechre, but that entire ilk.
I heard enough of B to know that it's good enough to beat the squawks.

Nailed it. You can lose points for being obvious, but God damn, what a track this is. The rhythm underpinning it all is heading right back to the days of Kraftwerk and Throbbing Gristle, and it's just a joy to hear how those synth melodies build and interact with each other.
Blur are shit, and obviously don't deserve anything but a fungal infection, but given this track is getting a bad press here, it might have something about it. At least it might not sound like ELO on a bad day. I quite like the string tones floating around the track, whatever's creating them - obscure name-check of the day coming up - it reminds me a little of Ville Moskiito's Retkikertomuksia. Just those tones floating around. It really doesn't need the cockney knees up keys n' tambourine though. Probably the best track I've ever heard from Blur. If you got rid of Albarn, the rhythm, and the piano, it'd be quite cool.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Good to see Autechre bringing out the "I don't get it so there must be nothing to get" snobbery. I find this one pretty exhilarating, all fizzing synth washes and train-to-disaster breaks.
B is a strange pick from Blur. I can see that it might be a deep cut, it's just that they did far, far better.

You know what, i really quite like B. Blur in this mode has a less polished, quieter pop charm that i really enjoy. A is nice enough in its way, but doesn't get anywhere past its influences for me or the sum of its parts simply don't gel to make it worth listening to again.

Yeah I enjoyed A as well. Plenty better from Blur than B, but it's probably too obvious I guess, that's how it is hey?

Not a stand out song by Blur but I prefer it to it's opponent which is simply not my cup of char.
