As in "walks over because it's immeasurably better" or "walks over because A doesn't meet the criteria"?

A is okay but Beck really was a very busted flush very early.
B was really quite sweet - I liked it!

I generally like Beck, but this song is dull, dull, dull. What's its purpose other than showing us Beck likes Tropicalia and can deconstruct it? Big meh.
B's not terribly exciting either, and in fact it's way too long and I find the vocals a bit jarring. But Beck did so much I find so much more worthwhile, and isn't exactly the most inventive choice to begin with.

You guys are NUTS.
'doesn't meet the criteria'?
'a busted flush very early'? Huh?
'dull dull dull'? FFS
"Tropicalia" is a sweet little number, and far from boring. It's a breath of fresh air, while you're sitting in a canal-side cantina in Florida. Smile-inducing, even.
As opposed to B, which is tediously boring and mind-numbingly long.
(Sorry, B)

I basically agree with Loki here. The Beck track didn't take itself too seriously and had a nice lilting quality. I think it succeeded in its summery vibe. I'm not such a purist that I think only Gilberto Gil should be allowed to play this stuff or something. The MM track wasn't bad, but it didn't hook me in either.

The problem with the Beck track, is that I probably wouldn't like it even if it was Gilberto Gil playing it. It just ain't anywhere near my wheelhouse. I don't know what would make that good or bad, and I have no inroad there. He's in danger of joining A Tribe Called Quest he's appeared that much.
B is what I imagine Arcade Fire sound like. An electronic Pixies, dull music with a singer who occasionally over-emphasises some words. The bass line is ok though, and I appreciate the crispness of that percussion.

Well I enjoyed the Beck. I think he did a good job of paying homage to the classic sound while adding some of his own vibe. It irked me that he chose such a prosaic, expositional title for the song though!
Modest Mouse are a band that passed me by even during my studenty indie phase. This one wasn't bad, with a nice rhythm section, I just kept waiting for it to blossom into something that never came.

Beck banging on about his slacker-antics using a Brazilian backdrop of Isaac Brock's gestalt-therapy using common Americana wallpaper?

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Beck really winds some folk up, doesnt he? Is it because he’s a genre hopping magpie and thus clearly “inauthentic”? Is it the Hollywood upbringing and the Scientology? Is because he’s hardly aged in 25 years? It can’t be the music because, to my ears, he’s nearly always listenable and is frequently, like on this, inspired. Fabulous. Modest Mouse are that kind of earnest American Indie -see also Death Cab, Shins, etc -that is good in small doses only. This one isn’t them at their best.
