Both very typical of a certain kind of US and UK indie of the 90s. I don't think B is great, it needs a stronger song, but it does make A seem a little stodgy and unimaginative in comparison. A just doesn't offer enough, it sounds like a million other things.

Credit for both being mercifully short.

B is just much the more interesting.

B, a burst of pure guitar Joy and Welsh weirdness with a great atheist message

A is just fine, but it isnt B so

B
Moorcock, Moorcock, Michael Moorcock, you fervently moan.

I was right! Guided By Voices are normally very average, where did that previous 30 seconds of Half Japanese-esque rockout come from? This is very much a indie rock song by an indie rock band from the US. It doesn't have a need to exist, and it seems quite happy with its own lack of character.

The intro/outro to B is a wackiness that perhaps has only been equaled by The Krankies. This is also a very bland, average indie rock song, by a bland indie rock band from Britain. It sounds like it could have Jools Holland on piano, and that's as unforgivable as the zany bits.

I like both of these. A isn't anything spectacular, it's just a solid indie rock song, so I guess how much you like it depends on how much you like indie rock. I like it well enough, if it's done well.
B has a bit more fizz and invention but at the same time I often find SFA just a bit frustrating; they don't follow through enough on their ideas.

So I'll give it to A for not trying to be anything other than two minutes of spiky, catchy rock.

A. Neither said much to me, but I didn't mind them either.

A is one of the better GBV tracks I've heard. Still not a fan, but at their best they cram in as many hooks in as short a time as possible. They fail when they limit the hooks or go on too long. That one addresses the balance about as well as they ever do. B was about as dull as the decade got.

Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

It would have to take something special for me to vote against SFA. A isn't that.

This is pretty much as good as it gets for GBV and it’s still mediocre, generic stuff. It’s easily blown away by a shot of adrenalised fuzzy aceness from SFA. Stellar pick.

A good match. I'm going with A, coz the wackiness in B is a bit off-putting now.

GBV high output volume back in the 90s made me back off for a time, bit songs like these could draw me back to the fold again.
SFA are putting up a brave fight though. God knows this place needs a bit of humour....
