I know both of these well but not because they're any good. They aren't.

Again, I'm not necessarily feeling either. A kinda reminded me of the Jimmy Barnes "Big Enough" meme, so there's that going for (against?) it. Well, the Laibach-esque bombast is rather appealing too, but then the rapping and shrieking diva antics feel especially dated. B might be something I have an easier time digesting as a whole, though there isn't much of a hook there to my ears either.

Although they were inspired by house and techno, really The KLF were the inheritors of the Chapman/Chinn productions for Sweet - take some garish and gimmicky sounds and package them in the most exciting way possible. I don't know if this is the best KLF record but it's certainly the maddest and most preposterous. You've got male voice choirs, foghorns, a demented Glenn Hughes, acid basslines, the 'Ace of Spades' riff and god knows what else. It's a mess, but one filled with humour, imagination and a perverse love of pop.
The Las were closer to Cast than The Stone Roses. As Byrds retreads go it isn't bad, but never quite escapes its own predictability.

Listened to just enough of A to decide it wasn't going to beat B, not one of my favorites, but from a record I've come to like a great deal.
I may have lasted a full minute.

Re: 90s Cup Round 7 Match 3
How weird is it that KLF were essentially the biggest band in the country at the time, and everyone was buying singles that sound simultaneously like Laibach and Pop Will Eat Itself? It's a bit of a mess of a track, but that's half its appeal, Big Stupid Pop done in a big stupid way. Mu Mu! Mu Mu!
I've never heard anything by The La's other than the blindingly obvious track, and I'm wondering if it's also blindingly obvious why we never hear the rest. It's not exactly doing anything massively original, it doesn't seem to have any kind of hook, and the vocals are annoying in a Liam Gallagher kinda way. Very much a n other indie band.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Great match up. But I just love Timeless melody, nearly as good as There She Goes and TSG is just about the most joyously wonderful song of all time

The KLF were a lot of fun but the music has for the most part dated very badly. Still, the madcap rapping sections are amusing enough.
The La's only had one song, let's face it, and this isn't it; very bland.

B is ok, but not what i'm after these days. The preposterous appeal of A still makes me smile.

Re: 90s Cup Round 7 Match 3
This was where KLF started flogging a dead sheep. Utterly deranged and hysterically overblown as it is, it was their worst record. It’s impossible not to smile at their simultaneous deep cynicism and bonkers love of pop, though. However, it’s an easy vote for The La’s, for me. That record is imperishable, contains no filler and can’t be held accountable for any of the mimsying dreck that came in its wake.

A is the right version. B is the sound of Liverpool, chancy scallies with 1 idea throughout their career. Inconsequential nothingness.

DEFINITELY for fucking love that shit, not to mention Kirin J Callinan is one of the more fascinating live performances I've seen, but that's for another Cup.
Anyway, I thought I was going to vote A until the actual song started. B
