Shame these are up against one another.

Yeah, very strange that "appropriate matches" always come up by random chance!

E. is someone I've always wanted to like more than I do. Possibly because his trick bag is ultimately extremely limited - but I do like the propulsiveness of A - kind of a poor man's version of the Baerwald track I posted earlier. B is good too if a bit more ordinary.

Mark E Everett is a bit like Beck on worse drugs, isn't he? I think he lacks Beck's genuine songwriting ability, which is why I've never really bothered getting into his music. I enjoy the odd thing but never enough to investigate properly or sit down and listen to it.

Of these I preferred the busted-conveyor groove of A to the sub-Tom Waits mashup of B.

If I never heard either again, I'd not lose sleep over it.

B was just a bit more... okay.

Hmm, I figured A was just a gimmicky intro, half Neubauten, half Foetus, but it does indeed sound like Beck has joined the party. Absolutely shocking crap lyrically, if you think you've come up with a clever song title, back it up with something better than this shit.

Yep, it's a shame that these are up against each other, I'd have loved to have voted against these in another round. B's just an exercise in being annoying over the top of a generic trip-hop drum loop, with occasional chords from the Hill Street Blues theme tune.

I guess the construction of A was better than the absolute lack of song in B.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

I don't rate either of these. I can't be bothered to say anything interesting about The Eels either, so I'll just say..

This is the first time I'm not going to vote.
Oh my cat has told me to go for B. Its the one that makes her yowl less. A crowning achievement Mr Eels don't you think?

The vocals are pretty shite in either case, but I reckon there's more of interest happening in the background in A than there is in B.

Yeah, sorry about that. It's not the first time I had a match-up between two exact similar artists in previous Cups. Maybe next time I'll drop a PM to one of the entrants and see if they want to change the order of their songs to avoid a clash like that.
Having said that, it does make it interesting to compare tracks. And in this case I like

E must have be a terrible disappointment to his father. Still, he probably consoles himself with the thought that somewhere there are universes when his boy doesn't make dull records. It's just not this one.

I really like the eels but they only really came into their own in the following decade. Both of these are lesser things, from even their parent records. I dislike the own brand Tom Waits of A and mildly dislike the rapping Bruce Hornsby of B. Missed opportunities.

I love Eels, I might be one of the only people left on the bus but I'm not getting off anytime soon.

A is the better song here.
