Can't make up my mind what I think of A - hate the vocals, but the Beefhearty guitar is very satisfying, particularly on the outro. I think it wins me over, but I'm still not sure. A better title might help.

I'm more tolerant of Blur than most here - and actually I like some of their stuff a great deal - but that's not one of my favorites. Overlong and a bit stilted.

A is more than the sum of its parts: I probably dislike all the individual bits, and let's face it they've listened to Trout Mask Replica far too much, but I can't deny that it's got something.
I'm still going to go for B as I like Blur in general, although as with the other Britpop-era pick in the early stages of this round, it's not one that I would pick myself.

A was kindergarten Beefheart. Not very good.
I think B is one of Blur's best, a darkly hypnotic track:the backing vocals- always a Blur strength- really work well here in creating a woozy, slightly uncomfortable feel and it has some of Coxon's best guitar.
Easily.

A were always going to struggle with anything that approached having a tune, so were unlucky to hit peak Albarn as opposed to Slint or Scott Walker

B
Moorcock, Moorcock, Michael Moorcock, you fervently moan.

Ah, U.S. Maple at their most commercial, running with something with almost approaching a recognisable riff or structure, and rocking out. As far as I know, they're the only band who took what Beefheart did on his classic albums, and ran much deeper with that approach as they really looked to rip the structure of modern alt-rock apart and piece it back together with sellotape. Hugely talented musicians creating something definitively new, what more could you ask for? A singer? Fuck that. "Wheeeee"

Blur were the absolute worst of all the Britpop shite that was vomited forth by the NME, such a thin, reedy track which is just a lame bit of Wire copy-cattery and ELO production. The absolute fucking pits.

So some of you cunts actually like an asthmatic iguana trying to sound like Captain Fucking Beefheart with a headcold, with out of tune guitars in the background? Fuck me gently.

It's one of the lesser Blur tracks, but B all the fucking way.

I didn’t dislike A, actually, it was on the right side of experimental to me, much better than some of rhe underground choices in this Cup. But it’s against a track which is actually Blur at their shape shifting best, an entirely successful channelling of White Album Beatles into a reaction against Britpop. With an ace coda.
