Note- this tie unfortunately is a forfeit too as I have Personal Jesus released in August 1989- I am aware that it's listed on Violator which was released in 1990.

Still, have a vote on it anyway....

The MBV was okay with a bit more structure or tune than they often have, but stuff like this doesn't tend to move me. Ultimately it's not what I want from music. Never much cared for DM, but Personal Jesus was the best thing they ever did..so a futile vote for..

I don't understand the eternal love for MBV.

I do, however, have eternal love for Depeche Mode, and they're at their best on Violator. What a shame this is the wrong decade, because it hits my spot. Every time.

I didn't include any MBV in my list as I assumed they'd be all over this cup. It'll be interesting to see whether they win any other ties, because they're very much a Marmite thing; I'm firmly in the "for" camp, though. This one would be an easy win for A even were B eligible - although I do quite like 'Personal Jesus' and the odd other Depeche Mode.

MBV would've gotten my vote regardless. Johnny Cash now owns PJ, which (talk about your back-handed compliments) is one of the more tolerable DM songs.

An easy A, not that it matters.

I think I'd probably have voted for B here, of all Depeche Mode's bombastic sub-Fad Gadgetisms, "Personal Jesus" is one of their best. But it's an obvious, if incorrect, pick. But A is also obvious, and the widespread love for what essentially sounds like The Cranberries doing some housework leaves me baffled.

I don't know if it's the fact that we've never done a 90s cup before or something, but I'm really disliking the sheer amount of obvious choices being made in this cup so far. I might only be speaking for myself here but personally I enjoy these competitions as a means to share music and discover new things, but what exactly is being shared here that we haven't heard fifty times already and isn't already a staple within this or any other music community? The prog goons may have a poor reputation in this forum but the PCC has never devolved into a revolving door of Big-4 tracks quite the way this has of the Rolling Stone's top 20 artists of the 90s or some shit.

Anyhow, amidst these two options I far prefer B, for whatever that's worth. The fact that one of the tracks got disqualified is about the only point of interest in this match.

Nah, it's always this way. Some people just see it as a competition to pick the most liked tracks. I don't really get it that way either.

And we're not all as knowledgeable in the ’90s as you two are :) . Of the 72 tracks posted so far, I've heard about seven before.

I'm allergic to DM.

Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

:o Surely people aren't picking their most liked tracks ??

Why don't you start a competition to see who could post the best tracks of someone holding down one key on a synth for 20 mins while someone else overdubs the sound of a trashcan being kicked down an alley while someone tunes a radio on and off the station ? Your sure to do well.

oh yeah A of course
