I didn't mind A too much. I thought the concept of contrasting these angelic voices with something noisey and dissonant is a pretty good one, but it could have been executed a bit better as the latter seemed to overwhelm the former. But it's okay.

I was going to a lot of clubs/raves in the early 90s so I remember this harder, more brutal style coming in. Basically instead of black guys from Chicago or Detroit making the records, you had some crusty white English guy and a lot of the spirituality and soulfulness got lost. I wasn't keen on it then and I'm not now. Plus it has that godawful "woah yeah" sample that was over everything (even Timmy bloody Mallet) for a while.
PS This has nothing to do with Tricky.

I'd prefer A if it was just a single vocal: the collective voices are a bit too syrupy. But I am a sucker for noisy guitars, and I found B unlistenable.

A has something going for it but it didn't quite convince me. It might just be a question of the gothy leanings not being to my personal taste but I think I'd rather hear some MBV or something if I want to hear noise and prettiness combined.
B lacks the charm and invention of other classic Warp cuts, but it retains some punch and is the one of these I'd rather sit through again.

I agree with much of what's been said about A, the more typical noisy/destructive elements eventually overwhelm it. Nice idea, they just ultimately don't have the conviction to go all the way with it. I like both elements of it, shame they needed to drive the more typical one into the ground.

Not that it matters, as B is about ten seconds worth of material stretched well beyond what I was capable of listening to in one sitting.

A is basically Madrigal singers trying to front JAMC, but still more interesting than B...

Miranda Sex Garden's Suspiria is a personal favourite of the era, a really varied, odd album of pseudo-operatic vocals, pop-tunes, and odd experimentation. I was thinking of using "Play" which is one of the oddest lead singles from an album ever for a band with some commercial aspirations, basically a nursery rhyme followed by lots of breaking glass and screaming. But I couldn't find it on youtube. This is a bit more mainstream, but I think as the vocals take more low-key than on some tracks, it's the drumming which lifts the track out of the dullness of the recognised shoe-gazey likes of MBV. Pretty fucking embarrassing that they then went on to form the Medieval Baebes though.

I'm the operator with my pocket calculator. But it's a scientific calculator, and I don't really know what I'm doing with it. I pressed the wrong option, and now it's stuck in a mode where I don't understand what it's trying to do.

Much like others have said about A, there's a very interesting juxtaposition at play in that track even if it ultimately does fade a bit into the background, but that's more going for it than B.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

I remember Peel playing loads of things that sounded like B - its reductive and cynical and not something I’d listen to. However, A is a goth mess and I want to punish it. Thus

both are pish. A for being marginally less pish but if I want sweet angelic vocals married to thumping heavy rock I'd rather listen to Babymetal.
