Kinky Afro is okay but a long way from my favourite Mondays track from that period. It's a bit repetitious, although Shaun's lyrics are fun. Happy to see them in the cup but rather wish it was with a different track.
B is that kind of blaring, insistent hip hop that Public Enemy pioneered. I would probably have liked it at the time but these days I find it a bit of a cacophony (getting old..? probably).

Ken the Guinea Pig got quite excited because of A's rather loose association with grapes. Plus, it's good.

I've always liked A even though I'm not a huge Mondays fan: it's got a big chorus and swings likably, and I do appreciate the value of attention-grabbing lines like the opener here.
B is alright but that Bomb Squad production style hasn't held up too well.

I sometimes find it difficult to listen to that type of production/sound of B.

Whereas A is wonderful (and i'm not a fan of the Happy Mondays at all) , fun and (as a bonus) features the most bombed you were ever allowed to get in promo videos.

I dunno, put 'em on a thread about Jeremy Corbyn and they're light years apart, put 'em in a BCB cup, and I just can't tell which is Copehead and which is Goat Boy. I'll hazard a guess at the goat. Poor call on the YouTube uploader for cutting out before the fade completes though. For all it's status as a key track in the baggy times (what a newspaper that could've been), there's not much here is there, even Bez seems to struggle to find much to dance about. It's no Step On or Hallelujah.

And I disagree, I think the Bomb Squad production style holds up much better than most hip-hop, especially when the Bomb Squad did it. This is a weird patchwork hotch-potch of a hip-hop track though, and the emcee isn't particularly good, is he? How is everyone calling this out for having just one style? But just for chucking so much into the mix, and for being an obscure pick (to me, anyway), this wins.

Both pretty monotonous, and B is a bit goofy for good measure, but there's something amiable about it, while Happy Mondays play the usual "look at me," while doing nothing to earn the attention they demand. I can think of few bands that try as hard to get by with so little to offer.

I always found the Happy Mondays annoying and this particular song is really annoying, maybe it's Bez's dancing that increases the annnoyance factor, I don't know. Unfortunately for B it turned out to be even more annoying. A stroke of luck for A then.

Didn't much care for B, so it's A which was fine enough.

A - This utterly inauthentic shower of scumbags were the ruination of Factory records, and I never quite forgave them for that. They always gave better interviews than records: this isn't their worst effort, but there's nothing much to it. Can't think of anything worth saying about it or them, apart from I'm glad they're gone, and with luck I'll never have to listen to them again 3.5 / 10
B - Wish they had continued with the banjo. There's a thickness to the sound I find difficult to like - too much bottom end, a problem I have with almost all hip-hop or dance music from the last quarter century or so. Last 5 seconds made me sit up, and it just limps over the line 4 / 10

Listening to that Happy Mondays track now, it’s as listless and blank eyed as the models in the video. They had a brief peak broadly from Bummed to the Madchester Rave On EP (in the 80s, sadly) but this shows them in a pretty poor light. B is not great but it wins here.
