I get the feeling this cup's gonna really wear me down on weedy college rock soon. But much as I say that, and much as I love Hawkwind's classic era, I think A is probably the better track here.

If I never heard neither again, it would be too quick.

But B just edges it.

Well, as college rock goes, better Tom Verlaine as an influence than Bad Company. And I don't even like Hawkwind's 70s stuff that much.

In this spirit, an unenthusiastic vote for A.

I always thought of Ride as being a bit too wet and colourless to fit in with the best power-pop or shoegaze stuff and this backs me up. It's a pleasant tune but lacks anything that makes it grab the attention.
B is presumably from the same source as the Mötorhead song in the last round. Like hatz, I find Hawkwind a bit dull in the '70s, and didn't really need to know that they were still droning on twenty years later.

A for being OK.

That Hawkwind track feels pretty generic. I haven't gotten around to exploring their later stuff, and probably for good reason. I never was really sold on Ride either, but it gets my vote in this case. A.

Shit. Twisterella was where Ride got unbearably light for me. Any other track than that.....
So Hawkwind it is!

I actually don't mind the Hawkwind, but the Ride, even though it's not them at their best, still feels irresistibly 90s.

Ride prove that they're not as good at being Teenage Fanclub as Teenage Fanclub. I have a low tolerance for this kind of indie power pop these days, it's just so bland.
B does nothing to make me want to enter its world ever again, but at least the old buggers sound like they've got a bit of life left in 'em.

Far from my fave Ride tune. Can't believe I like a Hawkwind song better.

I like Ride. I still enjoy their (earlier) records. The trick is to not listen to the words.

Ooh, an NME mixtape cast-off. I was expecting much more of this jangly bed-wetting nonsense. So long as we harmonise, and the guitars jangle, the NME will love it won't they... It's sub Bluetones shite.

And I take it someone's come up with the humorous theme of hoary old bands who should've stopped 15 years before the nineties. Motorhead, then Hawkwind. Well done.

Fucking rubbish.
Abstain.

It takes a brave man to enter Hawkwind in a 90's Cup and the fact that a track by a hoary old band that should have quit before the turn of the 80's is miles better than the other song is an embarrassment for Ride.
