I remember that Ten Sharp song. It’s utterly dire. Picked as presumably Johnny Hates Jazz were defunct in the 90s. I actually have a soft spot for Ben Folds, even though milk monitor rock isn’t far from the truth. I’d rather have had stuff from the first 2 records as this tends more to the annoying than clever. Still, it isn’t A.

I almost picked B, because it's a bloody great song from a sometimes unfairly maligned man and his band (even though he can be a bit smug sometimes), but I doubt if I did pick this I'd have been as kissed in the arse by a rainbow as this person was by being drawn against whatever the fuck A is.

a - harmless pop music, I thought, can't really see why it's getting excoriated like it is. I never heard the cod reggae beat, Michael Bolton's bombast, or Simply Red's grating lounge soul (I have no idea what Curiousity Called the Cat sounded like), and the piano made a pleasant noise. Sure, it wasn't very nineties, but judging by what the assembled massive has seen fit to put before us in the first two rounds as the best of the decade, that has got to be a virtue. 5.5 / 10
b - oh ffs back to the drivel. lasted 30 seconds and it had already changed tack about three times. Shit band, shit name, shit. - 3 / 10

To be fair B gets better towards the end, but not enough to make me want to change my original (non) vote.
