A was ahead of its time. Less invention, more "attach as many familiar names to the track as possible" - the beginning of the bad road that would take full hold by the following decade. There's still some semblance of creativity here, so I guess I'll still vote for it, but I feel queasy rewarding its choice when there are so many other, much more worthy candidates.

B is smarmy and annoying anyway - and what the hell were they thinking with that cover and (already used, and not particularly clever then!) album title?

A is a good production, a nicely understated groove, but I never felt the rapping was up to much and the hook is a bit lacking too.
B is energetically performed, but they don't have a hook, a melody, a groove or a riff. Or a good drum fill. Or any nice ambient textures or anything. So a bit shit really.

A's the kind of smooth groove hip hop/r&b lost lately. Just an easy-going classic of a track.
Up against a kick-your-teeth-in stomper from Cows. Yeah!

A I suppose, although it's also one of the most overrated tracks of the decade.

A has never really done that much for me. B is ok, but i love the Blue Note homage of the cover.

A

Though I don't need to hear it on purpose.
Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

A very difficult vote that I hate to make. This one pretty much splits me evenly. But to not vote for the Cows is to turn my back on My Nineties in a way I just can't bring myself to do. Sincere apologies to A.

Yeah, I feel like I should like the mood and the swagger of A, but there's something about it that really frigging annoys me. It feels like a team of music industry insiders (maaan) got together and tried to create something that the kidz would really dig by focus-grouping the crap out of mainstream hip-hop and boy-band songs.

Cows reminds me of Dead Kennedys when they'd just gone off the boil. Not a lot there, really, but not as annoying as A.
