Another pair of bands I nearly considered for my own list, with some of their most prominent works in this decade. Both are very good, A's a great slice of gothy progressive electronic and B is groovy and beautiful... But I'm not too sure just how well B works outside the greater context of the entire Long Season piece. For that, I'm going with A.

I will say I'm thoroughly glad to see someone else love Fishmans here through, they're a wonderful band especially live. Just a great match to kick off round 2, well done both.

A was good. For the first half.

I'm going for B because it was less than six minutes long.

I like FIshmans' Long Season a lot but it's light years away from Musick to Play in the Dark.

A self-destructive choice of A.

I would like to thank B for only posting one of the 5 parts.

Bullshit, he should have posted the entire 40-minute piece (which is a single track in most live versions and includes a ten-minute drum-and-electronics solo). :)

I guess we should have known Coil would turn up in this at some point. They often seem intriguing when I read about them, and there are some tantalising noises in there, but not enough of them in what is essentially nine minutes of amateurish bedroom noodling that is better heard both earlier - Cluster - and later - Oneohtrix Point Never.
They have, though, got a fortunate draw here. B might sound awesome on drugs. I'm not on drugs, though, and so a drone piece based around beginner-level broken chords, silly voices and "ooh look the keyboard in the school music room has a 'special effects' setting!" noises doesn't really appeal.

I found myself quite enjoying both of these. They seem to come from a similar place except that B was much more 90's modern sounding while B sounded like a homage to 70's Klause Schulze, no bad thing.

I'll plump for A but it's pretty damn close.

This is probably the toughest choice I've had to make yet during this cup, because both tracks are brilliant. But I just can't bring myself to vote against Coil. So, A for me.

First but not last appearance for Coil in this Cup, I suspect. It wasn’t all bad for the first half, Tangerine Dreamy to these uneducated in the ways of post rock ears, but I lost interest in the noodling and dissonance as it wore on. 12 mins! And playing against it, another out of the same school. Again, not as egregious as I was expecting, similarly proggy, similarly not my bag. Actually, it gets a little unpleasant the more you listen to it. Those vocals are fingers on chalk board stuff. Both of these sound like music to hack multinational corporations to. Hard to call.

Thank you B! I will investigate Fishmans after that track!
But the TD-tribute by Coil has been a favorite of mine for a long time.....

A is actually one of my least favourite slices of latter-day Coil, it's far too in thrall to Tangerine Dream, and I recall reading that it's more of a Thighpaulsandra solo effort than Balance and Sleazy.

Never heard of Fishmans before, and this seems to me to be halfway between kosmische and Broadcast. Just a bit too tasteful to really earn my vote.

I'm clearly a heathen, because neither of these is at all, at all, my thing. B is slightly less soporific.

Both similar tracks. I was pretty engaged with A's sub Steve Reichisms for a good five minutes or so before it began to wonder off in unwelcome directions and outstay its welcome. B was just pretty dull for me.

Interesting pairing!

I enjoyed the Coil more than I thought I would, but I still couldn't make it to the end.

B was ultimately more pleasant.

I'll go with A.
