A is a lovely pick, nice work. B is good but not quite as pleasant.

Easy win for A, the sumptuous jazzy tones of Talk Talk create a sound you could bathe in. Dubstar are somewhere between St Etienne and Spice Girls, having the style and elegance of the latter, and the pop hooks of the former.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

A easily but B was not too bad at all and would have won many of the other ties.

Re: 90s Cup Round 1 Match 8
a - I've heard very little of Talk Talk, and after this aim to keep it that way. This track is tedious, his voice is dreary, the noodling has an insufficiency of soy sauce, heard it all before. Better than the Dave Clarke 5, perhaps, but, on the whole, if I must listen to an act from my home town, I'd rather it were Adele. Made it halfway through, nothing happened, it can fuck right off.
2.5 / 10
b - not familiar with this track or band at all, but oh the joy of a female vocal. Again, the tempo drags a little for me, but at least it's pleasant on the ear. The singer reminds me strongly of someone, but can't place it (ah, yes I can, she sounds like the lead vocalist from Mono In VCF), but hallelujah for finally finding something that gets a pass mark. 5.5 / 10
