I did listen to the SOOL song out of interest - and it turned out to be agreeable retro rock, not shabby at all. However, it was always - always - going to lose to one of the best tracks of the decade, the utterly fantastic Passin’ Me By, best track on a great record.

A does its best to add dynamics to a nothing song. It reminds of latter period Oasis in that regard..a band trying to make something from scraps.
B has that kind of bratty rap style (see Beastie Boys) that I've never been that keen on, but musically it's strong and comes from a period where hip-hop was going through a golden period of invention.

B fairly easily.

I have little interest in hip-hop as a rule, but B grooves rather marvellously - I really like it.

On the other hand TSOOL was the one new (old) discovery this year that really made me brim over with enthusiasm.

A clear A, then.

A is what I expect from TSOOL - competent, catchy, but vaguely lumpen retro-stodge. Music to eat boiled potatoes to.

And it’s from 2001.

So it would be a walkover for B anyway, although as a nifty bit of Golden Age alt-hip hop it wins regardless.

A is blocked for me but I was able to find it elsewhere. Like most SOOL I've heard it rocks along pleasantly enough but inspires no particular interest in ever seeking it out. B, on the other hand, is an inspired song from an inspired band in an inspired era for the genre.

Confirmed.
First penalty of the match.
I'll let the voting continue for argument's sake but the result is a forfeit
