The Dino Jr. track isn't one of my faves by them (but the video's kinda fun), and I don't think I've heard that Auteurs tune before. I don't really like either to be honest, but I'll give it to...

B is ok, though a bit run of the mill. A is great.

Both handy songs to kick off proceedings, but I like A that little bit more

The Auteurs seem to be one of those bands that we were told were arty and dead clever and stuff, but no evidence was ever produced to back it up. There's nothing here that would have stood out on a Deacon Blue album.
The laid back simplicity and warmth of Dinosaur Jr wins it for me. Nothing out of the ordinary, but it doesn't need to be.

a - well, I've always liked J Mascis, his voice and guitar style, and while this mid-tempo melodic chug isn't particularly central to that like, it passes pleasantly enough. 5 / 10
b - So, Luke Haines. Always aware of him being a bit of a cult, but what I read never led me to believe I'd like him enough to get into him, so this is pretty much a first listen for me, and I'm a bit underwhelmed. Contrary to those lauding it earlier in this thread, I couldn't find anything in it to suggest I've missed much. Competent, lively, but without the context of already liking or being interested in him, and whatever it is he's saying, I simply can't be arsed. Music won't save you from anything but silence. 4 / 10

The Auteurs did nothing for me. I've read Haines' book & enjoyed it enough to try some of the Auteurs stuff & it always seems to lack a certain spark, comparatively the D. jnr track had a little zest.

Post-Living Dinosaur was hit or miss, this is ok but Haines only good record is better.

Bad luck Fange, I'd have voted for your track in any other tie except possibly the Animal Nitrate one, I love that song and Dino Jr.
But Lenny Valentino is a monster track that I rediscovered after reading Haines' autobiography, which I thoroughly recommend.
