Re: 90s Cup- Groups, Results, Standings
Just a point of order as a non-interested party. While fining a forfeiter 25 votes as well as the tie is reasonable, is it fair that his opponent, who has already got a walkover two points, and may themselves have posted an affront to general BCB decency, also get a huge, largely unassailable bonus in votes difference? Just a suggestion, but why not leave voting open and count the actual votes difference in the league tables, even if it's in favour of the banned track, and use that if the positions in the final tables come to votes difference?

I can't believe you're throwing in the towel with the "I didn't really care anyway" line so soon. One defeat by a piece of indie AOR, and you've crumbled. I never had you down as a quitter.
A loser, with terrible taste in music. But not a quitter.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

I'm not against that idea but I think that the punishment first and foremost should be paid by the miscreant falling foul of the rule. To let voting continue seems fair just for the other competitors but I can't say whether that vote will be influenced by people who don't vote because the result is a foregone conclusion. Also, I think it is fair that the opposition gets a just reward-i.e. if in three ties one player wins by one or more votes or another even loses the tie, it wouldn't equal a fair outcome as they played by the rule.
The 25-0 idea was meant as a deterrent. I had no idea that three ties in it was going to be a deal breaker as I now have three forfeits.

i'm not quitting - i think i'll do fine in the end, whether i hoped to or not!
But by simply picking 8 songs i deeply love (and had been listenimg to recently), rather than worrying about whether anybody else even likes them, i'm finding this comp. a lot of fun, despite being forced to listen to other people's horrendous choices!

My friend, I think you and I both know you're next to no chance of finishing bottom while I'm in your group

Re: 90s Cup- Groups, Results, Standings
hell of a lot of drive-by voting going on (as an aside, it also seems to me that there's quite a split between the British voters and the Americans, more so than in previous ties). It takes me ages to go through the tiesa round, listen, complain, and vote, even though several helpful people have provided me with walkover ties by picking stuff by vile artists that I'm never going to listen to.
Which brings me to the point of my post. Next time, if there is a next time, can I suggest the 150-second cup? Any era, any genre, but no more than two and a half minutes long

Re: 90s Cup- Groups, Results, Standings
A general point is that, irrespective of what I may think about the individual tracks selected (the good, the bad and the what in the bejeesus) I’m enjoying the fact there’s so much commentary in the voting - not just a relentless binary pattern of As and Bs. This Cup is delivering in that regard even if I’ve had no new-to-me revelations yet.

I agree!
I'd need some time but I think about compiling some of the best comments here for future sig material.
