Re: CC GRAND FINAL- Match 2
A is a cool thing to cover, but pointless. The heart of it is Buckley's vocal improvisation - copying it, even when you have the chops, misses the point.
Fortunately B owns a song that should be more covered than it is.

Nonsense to the aggressiveness, I've seen more aggression on the my little pony message board......I mean I was told.

Re: CC GRAND FINAL- Match 2
A is not a patch on the original, turning it into a bland "let's play it slowly and people will think it's wonderful" dirge.
B on the other hand is a really slinky, powerful interpretation.

Think people are being too harsh on A, which I think did bring something of its own to the Buckley original. But B is a real favourite.

Hmm, a tricky one. I liked both a lot. One of those matches that call for a vote to make things even.

Re: CC GRAND FINAL- Match 2
I think A is very stereotypically 4AD, but it's doing that quite well, I don't get the negative comments. It's handling a good song tastefully, but stamping their own imprint on it.
And it's closer to my kind of thing than B is. I'm sorry, this kind of thing just doesn't speak to me. Though that brief bit of sax was interesting and cut through the cloying strings for a minute. Just too much going on, and not all of it seems to belong to the song to me.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

A. Very hypnotic.
It’s close though as B is very good too.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Re: CC GRAND FINAL- Match 2
As good as B is, it is not the heartstopping beauty of the song that literally floored me when I heard it first on Monday night radio and put me in the direction of 4AD and the work of Tim Buckley...
