Oooh, really tough one. I may have to come back to this - both of these are really good.
B - Actually, no, the (dulcimer?) in place of vocals early on doesn't work for me whereas
A - Northern style Elbow electric-bleak does West Country electro-bleak beautifully.

Band that's written the occasional good song covers band that hasn't. Why?
B is another pointless genre exercise but at least it goes somewhere.

I was quite close to picking the Jose Gonzalez take on 'Teardrop', which turns it quite effectively into a '60s psych folk number. This version is prettily played but the chap's voice isn't suited.
B is a cut above the usual novelty stuff, as there is actually a coherent concept and point there. I just didn't really think that the final product sounded all that great; the song just doesn't sound right in this style.

Ooh, the shopping-mall-indie of Elbow taking on the coffee-table politeness of Massive Attack. Guy Garvey always came across as a nice but essentially boring bloke on BBC 6 Music. Nothing wrong with that, I'm particularly uninteresting and boring myself. I don't know why he's trying to sound like Aled Jones, but he's not really getting close.
I'm impressed that someone recalled this version of Blue Monday, it must've been a good couple of years since it was doing the rounds on facebook. It's a novelty, but it's a cut above, done quite well, with a lot of love for the original. I love the percussion for the last 30 seconds.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

It took me a while to get into it, but in the end I did enjoy B quite a lot. Whereas A spoiled the initial good impression. It happens.

A was very faithful to the original arrangement, but managed to suck the sensuality out of the track nevertheless. Guy Harvey for Liz Frazier is never going to be a good swap.
B was interesting in a radio workshop type way; wondering how they might recreate Hook's bassline using only horse shoes and a map of Wolverhampton. Once my initial curiosity had been satisfied it got pretty dull though.

B - interesting instrumentally but the vocals don't work for me. Still pretty good
A - Elbow turns this song into a ballad and it works for me. Guy Harvey mellow vocals always works for me.

Re: CC Final Round Match 10
a - don't know the original, and since it's Massive Attack, I'm not inclined to find out. I'm sure this is an improvement. It's enjoyable enough, in a Junior Blue Nile sort of way, and the vocal is pleasingly melismatic and unintelligible, so I can easily imagine Liz Frazier doing it. Maybe I'm demob happy, but I kind of liked it 5.5 / 10
b - Like DF, I enjoyed, and indeed shared, this on Facebook when it was doing the rounds a while ago. Now that the novelty has worn off a bit, though, I'm liking it less. They're no Temple City Kazoo Orchestra, that's for sure. 5 / 10
A, surprisingly

The original was a ballad. There's no difference in tempo between this and the original.
