A - I'm not familiar with the Hellacopters but they sound a bit like an American garage Status Quo. Not necessarily as bad as it sounds.
B - the music of this version really isn't up my strasse.

Both quite good - B surprisingly so, as I'm generally not a fan, but they take the song someplace new that's not just 'what they do.'
A mostly gets by on energy, but they also cover one of my favorite MC5 songs and beat the hell out of it.

Re: CC Final Round Match 9
This is a bit strange: I was going to post that one of the Hellacopters lived just round the corner from me, but when I googled to find out which one exactly he was, I learned that he'd died in an accident just a few months ago.
Sorry for bringing the tone down there; back to the music, I enjoyed the song here, a good blast. B is another one of those covers that takes a great song and does something far less impressive with it, in this case turning it into an FM goth chug.

Re: CC Final Round Match 9
I'm not familiar with the MC5 original, but it's a decent enough slice of rock n' roll boogie, if not quite as aggressive or loud as I'd have expected. Thang-y is spot on, this sounds very Status Quo, I could imagine this being played on Radio 2 on a Sunday afternoon, it has that stodgy meat, potatoes n' gravy feel to it. Greasy.
I love the original of "Hiroshima Mon Amour", and don't see much hope of it being improved upon. The start is very respectful. In fact, it seems a very respectful cover throughout. Doesn't need those drums. You get the feeling that the guitarist wants to go full cock-rock, but has wisely been told to stop it off. Would have been better if they'd either gone wild with the guitaring (without cock-rocking), or toned it down much more.
Neither are particularly inventive covers, but B has chosen the better song, and are less Quo.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

Re: CC Final Round Match 9
Excellent match. A adds a slightly harder edge to a song that I have always liked, and the result is quite good. I never did like the original of B, but this cover made a good impression. So, strictly in terms of what the cover does add, B should win. But if I have to say which song did I like the most, it's got to be

A is all very rote, but it is lively.
I'm disappointed in B, it updates the lo-fi production of the original to give it a more modern sheen, but otherwise is a pretty straight copy even down to the vocal. Nothing like as atmospheric as the original either.

a - doesn't add much to the original beyond a better vocal (anyone but Tyner), and has lesser guitarists than Wayne and Sonic, but, as G says, it is lively, and at this stage of the competition I'm grateful for anyone who doesn't think the best thing you can do with a rock & roll song is slow it down and throw a moody into the mix. Plus it got it all done in two minutes. 6 / 10
b - I can't imagine how anyone could fail to improve on an Ultravox song, although I suppose this one is from the pre-Midge days and therefore doesn't deserve the full-on prejudiced derision. Having checked out one of the three original versions available though, I find it to be rather horrid. This version is streets ahead in terms of the production and playing, as G noted, but the song still isn't all that. Dull movie, too. 4.5 / 10
