Quite a disparate match.
A ... not what I expected from Graham Bonnet, but it manages to be different enough (no acoustic guitar, vocal delivery different but apposite ), tidy cover, clean-cut, pretty good. I don't like the song but the cover's pretty good.
B ... I really like the original. The style of the cover doesn't lend itself to the song. In fact I think it's shite.

A seems to want to turn the song into Maggie May, although Bonnet's straight, sincere vocal wasn't without appeal.
B is the kind of posy, self-consciously "edgy" track you expect to turn up in the soundtrack of a David Finscher film, all over-production and idiot beats. Still, the chorus kind of won me over in the end, if only through its sheer bloody-minded repetition. Overall it was a bit more memorable.

Re: CC Final Round Match 8
Oddly enough considering Bonnet's apparently known for his singing, I like everything else about A. He simply has no command of the song and while he's clearly got a good voice, he might as well be singing a burger commercial. But the production's good, and it's a take of the song that's at least unlike any others, which is quite an achievement considering how many times its been covered.
Besides B is interesting neither as a song or performance. I found it mostly annoying.

Re: CC Final Round Match 8
Who is Graham Bonnet? Why has he chosen to sing like that? Why did no-one stop him? If it wasn't for that Maggie May touch, there's be literally nothing of worth in this record. Sounds very much like the worst kind of dull mid 70s rock record.
I can't say as I'm familiar with the original of B, and I guess I'm not entirely in the target market. I gather it's about someone distributing her clothing to the masses for the public good, as she subscribes to communist ideals. I saw Ladytron once, supporting Interpol a few years ago. They weren't as lively as this, I thought it was all much more sub-Goldfrapp (Iron Pyritesfrapp?). It's actually a big improvement to my ears, I quite like this, the quietly squalling electronics and reverberating synth is my kinda thing. The drumming is a bit annoying though, should've discarded that entirely.

A is a weird Rod Stewart impression (though Rod had more subtlety when covering Dylan) that seems to be really struggling not to break out into full on stadium cock-rock.
B is a throwaway thing that doesn't sound much like the Ladytron I've heard before, but it'll do.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

a - eee, I remember the Marbles you know ... it were all Gracie Fields around here when I was a lad ... but I don't remember him singing in this register with them, although no doubt that's my memory at fault. Really, this pick is suffering from previous exposure to the Roky Erickson version - oh and also to that crappy bit of slide/steel guitar playing – as well as a really rather pathetically inadequate bit of production and backing and an unfortunate occasional channeling of the rod Stewart rasp. Poor. 2.5 / 10
b - Well, I don't know the original of this and I can't say I particularly enjoyed the cover, which sounded like racket for racket's sake, not always a bad thing, but you need a little more inspiration to make it work. 3 /10

A good friend of mine is Bonnet's tour manager. Like his work with Blackmore and his band is actually pretty strong. Funny to hear him do this.
