B, musically, isn't that much different to the original. The vocals don't add much either. Meh.
A .. different, isn't it. Better? No. Having seen him a few times, I've come to a few conclusions about his original music and his covers. I won't bang on about them but it's a bit fast food. Not exactly great but designed to be quite digestible if you're in the mood for that kind of thing.

Re: CC Final Round Match 3
New Dawn Fades is top-tier Joy Division for me, which doesn't necessarily mean I'm going to dismiss a cover version, but you have to find something less Joy Divisiony in the music if it's going to be successful. Flowers of Hell's version of Atmosphere, for example, takes an even better track, and finds a completely different mood, which works. Here Moby is going for the same effect as the original, but reworking it in the style of a Marilyn Manson cover. It's all bells and whistles, no balls or soul. And a rubbish vocal. Which is a shame, as Moby is one of those rare kinda mainstream people who I would've thought had it in him to do something more interesting with such great source material.
Now Dinosaur Jr are a band who I don't expect to do something particularly interesting with a cover, and here they take a Cure song that's not massively memorable, and make it sound like a Dinosaur Jr track with a Pantera interlude. The amiable fuzz and half-assed vocals don't normally do it for me, but I guess Bob's a better songwriter, and there's something of an interesting quirk to this that just catches my interest.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Both of these are from the "do a song we like, and do it like us" school - neither finds anything new in the song. A is probably a better song, but B is a style I like more. And for the first few bars, and least, J. sings in key! I wonder what possessed him.

Not keen on either.
A is turned into an overstuffed goth track.
B is fairly standard early 90s shambling indie.
B is a bit more inventive in some of the noises it makes and seems more comfortable with what its doing.

a - Baldy really is a tosser, isn't he? Appalling vocals, whether or not he's in key, whatever that is. Nah, that's shit for pretty much the reasons the Penumbrous Piscine adumbrates, and I can save myself the trouble because
b - is something I know well and love, and vaguely assumed was a Dinosaur tune. Anyway, J is a better vocalist, whether or not he's in key, whatever that is, than Fat Bob, and miles ahead of him as a guitarist. This isn't much, tbh, until J treats us to 25 seconds or so of solo, which is worth the price of admission on its own. Minus points for the uploader cutting off the end of the song, but it was always going to win here.

Re: CC Final Round Match 3
Both of these are a bit shit.
A is frustrating as I do think 'New Dawn Fades' would suit a big pounding rock treatment, but this is not that treatment.
B is much like the rest of Dinosaur Jr's stuff, fairly pleasant but just giving the impression of a band who don't dare to turn the volume up or have a proper go at singing.
B is more listenable I suppose.

Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

A sounds like Type O Negative with a drunk karaoke-singer fronting. Terrible.
B is a guitar band doing a guitar thing to a pop song. Not overly exciting but it'll do.
