The Chocolate Watchband don't do a whole lot to The Kinks original, but they do bring a snotty punk sneer to it which is enough for me to enjoy it. Powerful drumming too.
B is just a bad idea and another shameful selection in this most woeful of competitions.

Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

A is a good snotty version of the Kinks classic, though given how many lineup changes the Watchband went through it could well be the Kinks themselves playing it!

B is a clever idea. I don't need to hear more than twenty seconds of it, though.

The David Aguilar/lead singer version is the best. This precedes it.

A is pretty much as Moddie describes it. I've always liked it without ever being able to get too excited about it.

B is just annoying, though, so I don't need excitement, just essential decency.

I've never heard The Kinks original before, so I'm sitting through it now. I always expected Kinks album tracks to be more interesting than this, the singles normally were. The Watchband version actually sounds like it could've been recorded earlier, and it's a definite improvement with the janglier guitar line. The tambourine and one of the drums seem to have been mixed to come too loudly through the left earpiece on my headphones though. That gets a bit annoying.

Whereas B barely counts as a cover, it's just the original played slowly through a bunch of effects, to make it sound a bit fuzzy and wonky. Not much skill or effort involved here. Shameful.

The Chocolate Watch Band are a very limited combo.

I was expecting B to give me ex-sister-in-law flashbacks, but no. In fact I’m sure C de B himself must play this track to the hapless victims he defiles, eviscerates, abominates and anthropophagizes in his spacious castle basement where the semen-fetid air seethes with cavorting holograms of Lady Di.

I was hoping for some completely fucked up version of B to turn me upside down....nope.
A gets the basics right and that's good enough in this tie.

a - pedestrian faithful run-through of a mediocre Kinks composition by a run of the mill band. Unobjectionable, but a bit dull 4 /10
b- Not as appalling as I assumed. Not sure it counts as a cover, more the sort of thing you'd get from Culturcide. Seems the whole point is to point out what an unremittingly creepy sleaze-fest CdB's big hit is. I wouldn't want to hear it again, but the same applies to its opponent here and at least 99.95% of all available recordings, so I can't hold that against it. At least it pissed a few people off. 4 / 10

So, Lady in Red is a crap song. Nice, now tell me something I didn't know. There have been a few good covers of crap songs along this cup, this just isn't one.

As a devoted Kinks fan, INLEE is far from being amongst my faves from them, and this cover doesn't add much. It would lose in many matches before. Got lucky here.
