I really like both. Can I vote for both? No. No point.

I'll come back to it.

Two interesting selections. I thought B dragged a bit and got a bit dirgey, it needed a sparkier arrangement. Neneh's vocals were great though.
I think the Elevators do bring something different to the Dylan track, a certain spooked quality.

I liked B fine until it got to the 'free' bit. It's a bit at odds with the 'big riff' direction it starts in, and then it just keeps beating it into the ground. It sort of artificially elongates the song when they had already gone past where they were taking it.

A likely would be on my short list if I were participating. Roky really makes it his own and it's neither too Dylanish or Elevators-ish. That's how you do it, folks!

I really liked A, which had an absorbing, hypnotic feel despite the initially chaotic arrangement.
B was quite effective to begin with, but didn't do enough to keep me interested. It was one of those covers that was quite well done but mainly made me want to listen to the original.

A feels slightly shuffling and shambolic, cheaply recorded by a bunch of hippies. Which is the kinda thing I approve of.

So is this The Thing the hand-entity from The Addams Family, or the rock bloke from The Fantastic Four. Dirt only requires the dexterity of the latter. I'm not sure it does enough with the original, until this sax meltdown which is just occurring. Oh, it's Mats Gustafsson, now that begins to make sense. Have you ever seen pictures of his record collection? Fucking ludicrous. This sax meltdown is still going on, I'm not sure you can call this part of a cover, but it's a thing of beautiful wildness.

This is probably the best tie in this cup so far, I think A would have won most rounds, but I have to give this the squalling sax of B
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Excellent match. Both take their originals to new places and give them an extra layer or two.
B may be a bit outside BCB's comfort zone in some ways, but I do love those horns and man, Neneh's voice is something else.

a - I was brought up on Joanie Baloney's version of this song. I think that's a pretty good vocal, and perhaps the best I ever heard the band sound - not that I made a big thing out of listening to them. 7.5 / 10
b - starts with a disadvantage because, whisper it, those first two Stooges albums are bloody dull and turgid, aren't they? And fuck me this is worse. Yuk. Lasted two minutes. No mark

I'm no fan of the 13thFE but this version is really well done and has the right combination of respect for the song and adaptation to the new act territory, and succeeds in making it an enjoyable track by itself. B is quite OK, but is facing a difficult contender, bad luck.
