Let U be the set of all united sets, K be the set of the kids and D be the set of things divided.
Then it follows that ∀ k ∈ K: K ∈ U ⇒ k ∉ D

The Thompson probably entertained the fans when he played it live. Buggered if I'm going to listen to it at home though.

I'm not sure I've ever knowingly heard KD Lang before. I've certainly heard 'Hallelujah' before. Brave to choose it, though I suppose it isn't the obvious Buckley version (which I do like, though I never need hear it again). This was actually a good effort, I thought. Restrained and graceful with none of the smooth smarminess I thought Lang was about.

One more damn version of "Hallelujah." Great. He had other songs!

I generally like kd and find nothing smarmy about her in the slightest. I find her music quite warm, in fact, though it does occasionally have that 'Public Radio Airplay" sheen so it's not like I don't know what you mean at all.

Nonetheless it's B. Can't hold her accountable for all the other covers, and hers is better than most. And as much as I like RT at his best, he can be very smarmy and self-satisfied. He does sort of find something in the song - I like the little jig break he does near the end - but it comes off a bit like Steve Allen reading "Be Bop a Lula." And especially considering he's covered much better songs much more interestingly, he's done nothing to earn my vote here.

b should have been Cale as he made the definitive version and it was a cover.

Thompson sounds like he's trying to copy Nick Cave's vocal style, and it's a shame because the music's good and a more restrained approach would've worked a lot better.

B - I can't stand this song and so only lasted about 30 seconds. It might be one of my most disliked songs of all time in fact.

I considered John Cale's version of Hallelujah but discarded it because of its being too obvious. And KD version is a bit worse than that, albeit less known. Anyway I think Thompson's take on that smash hit is funny, well done and a joy to listen.

Richard Thompson's vocal style seems to kill this one, which is a shame, as I think the instrumental sections are quite nice especially the more baroque thing. He does come across a bit smug though.

Cohen's version of Hallelujah is the definitive version, and that isn't particularly good. It's hard to judge a song like this, where there's so many damn similar versions, and none of them seem to have much point. She sings it well, it must be said, but whatserface from X Factor probably did too.

I think Dicky T might just nick this one. A

Yeesh to both, so I'll give it to kd's vocal.

Yes A's funny. And I may have give it a (1/2) vote for ... whatever.

But it's against B. If I never hear any version of that song again it'll be too soon but to be fair lang's version is from 2004 and the vote is for that velvety languorous chocolatey voice.

a - another one of those guitarists who thinks the fact that he can carry a tune (sort of) means he can/should sing. But putting this track against Britney shows how wrong he is. Takes a great sassy teen pop single and turns into a lifeless tasteful treat for the pipe and slippers brigade and lovers of Reg rock everywhere. He can piss right off. 2 / 10
b - Would it surprise anyone to hear that I'm unfamiilar with both the Leonard Cohen and Tim Buckey versions of this tune. I mean, I may have heard the latter at some point in the background, but I never listened to it, so I'm not remotely burned out on the song, and truth to tell, I'm not particularly impressed by it. But, as ever, I am overwhelmingly impressed by the quality of kd's voice – even better than Britney :) . Brilliant performance, and given the turkeyish nature of the song, I can't imagine Laughing Len's version sounding anything like as good to me. 7 / 10

I’m a bit (ok, significantly more than a bit) tired of the bewilderingly overrated Hallelujah but Lang does a good job here.
